Chiropractor: Doctor or Quack?

My son has had a twinge in his back from baseball. He's 15. It's a reoccurring deal from last year. There's a chiropractic office near our office and we are taking him there just to see what's what. Hoping it's just a muscle pull from swinging a bat. Chiropractor wanted to rule out a spinal fracture.
What say you?

Wouldn't a Dr be able to tell you if it is a spinal fracture?..
From my personal experience- I was at my wits end with my Dr. I hurt my lower back at the gym (with a personal trainer? wtf lol) and I couldn't walk for about a week.
I had a lingering sciatica thing going on where it hurt to sit, it hurt to walk, etc etc for about a year after. I kept going to the dr- they just kept prescribing me more pain medication and muscle relaxers.
I decided to go to a chiropractor. I was desperate. After 3 sessions, I have been pain free in my back for almost 2 years now. Like it never happened.
I know some people think they are quacks, but man- it changed my quality of life. I was tired of getting meds to cover up the problem, and glad that whatever he did fixed it.

I've got pals who are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. One swears by it, the other says he is now worse off after a couple months of trying it out...
If it were my kid, I'd start with getting a referral to an orthopedist and go from there.

Honestly, I feel like he's just pulled a muscle from a long layoff from swinging a bat. Figured we'd pop in and out of this guy's office and see if that resolved the problem. It's a lot quicker than getting in to see any orthopedist.

I have had neck problems for many years and it finally got bad enough to see a DR. A neurosurgeon said he could fix it but there would be multiple surgeries with no guarantee of results. I decide to wait and try something different. Checked around and did some research on local chiropractors and found one I like. After a month of him working on me I felt better than I have in years. I still get twinges and sore sometimes but the exercises that he showed me usually work it out. Also I went from going thru ibuprofen like tic tacs to rarely taking one now.

My experience has been that chiropractors will claim to be able to cure more than they actually can....everything from allergies to gastrointestinal issues. OTOH, I had some minor back issues that a chiropractor was able to knock out with a little tune-up and spinal decompression. I've had a few minor workout-related issues that my chiropractor has been able to clear up without me having to go under the knife, so, unless it's something obviously major, I always give my chiropractor first crack at it.

There are some good chiropractors out there and there are some nutjobs out there. Depends from chiro to chiro. Straight Chiropractics is fricking retarded.

If you go to one once you will have to go again. Back/Neck popper dealer.

I go to a chiropractor fairly regularly, and it does me a lot of good, but I realize that what he can actually do for me is limited.
If you go to one that makes all sorts of crazy claims about what can be done, go find a different one.

Chiropractors are the Climatologists of the medical community.

Chiropractors are the Climatologists of the medical community.
If the Chiro can relieve the pressure in my back, that puts pressure on a nerve, and limits my movement, I will take that any day, as opposed to laying up and taking muscle relaxers.

Chiropractors are like massage therapists. Don't expect any miracles but it sure does feel good.

A good physical therapist is a lot better than a chiropractor and won't make a bunch of false claims about what they can and can't treat.
And FWIW a significant portion of the medical community pretty much laughs at 95%+ of chiropractors because of the dishonesty. There's a very small subset of things they can help with, the rest is just a case of them not knowing what they don't know. If you have one that is honest about what they can and can't do, I respect that.

I love my chiropractor. I've been pain free for 2 years since I started going to the chiropractor. Hurt my back doing squats in high school... now I feel like it never happened, and I still weight lift 5 times per week.

My buddy went to one a few months back and at the end of his session the dude literally pulls out a "pitch sheet" and starts trying to close him on a 12 month program
I mean, wtf
