I think you're right....it seems things like this only leak out under Gus when they are happening.

Just relating my experience from years of my son in travel baseball....

We were always around coaches or trainers that had college or pro experience as a player. So, the knowledge level was always high. Now the ability to take that knowledge and convey it in an understable way to a young player is a different story. Rarely can you find a person with a combination of knowledge and teaching ability as well as a person that can motivate and mentor. That's why the guys that can actually do it are paid so damn much.

A player that played one position his entire HS, college, and NFL career is going to know more about that position than they are another.

This seems to be a good hire if it happens. If Muschsmp wants him theni trust he is a good coach.

He actually left Miami in August...supposedly to take care of his sick mother. He no longer coaches there.

So the guy left before the season and already is getting back into coaching? Did his mother pass? I don't know. That seems weird.

He has been in the game of football for most of his life. He sat out this season. He may be missing the game and wants to get back in it.

On another note, I found out the stupidity of the LSU fan base on here today. Posted this stuff on the CC board with an extra joke about the Orgeron thing (even put a next to it) and they are still freaking out about Oregro

That was pretty funny, it was clear in the context you were joking about Orgeron, but they were way serious about arguing why it would not happen.

So you don't think it's moronic and stupid to believe that Auburn should hire a proven college coach instead of just throwing money at a former player that has never coached a single second in college? All because he was a really really good player and he loves Auburn?

Let's hire Marcus McNeil to coach the OL while we're at it.

Maybe we can get Damon Duval to coach ST.

Or Cadillac. I mean, he's already at Auburn. Let's just make him the RB coach and pay him 6 figures.

All of this...

He is in town, but I imagine he's a little busy with his new restaurant.

A little weird, but consider that Auburn probably pays double what Miami pays. He can hire a lot of help for that, plus Auburn is small enough he could be minutes away in an emergency.
