While traumatic at the time, I could not think of a better way for him to check out.

Saban's last season is 2024, which ends with another NC and his ascension into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father.

More likely t'other direction, to join Bear Bryant...

In all seriousness, he is 63 but looks and acts like he's still in his mid-50s. There is no way he can enjoy retirement, and I don't think he can really enjoy anything except running a football program. So I think he could easily coach for another 6 or 7 years, and possibly another 10 years.
With all of that said, I'll predict 2021.

I believe Bobby Bowden is the oldest coach in the history of college football to win a national championship and he was around 70 years old when he won his last national championship at FSU.
Saban is only 5 or 6 years away from that point. He will either retire in the next few years or his performance will start declining when he reaches 70 just like every other coach in the history of college football

Yeah, most other coaches don't have his remarkable run of luck. He could easily have zero national championships without said luck

But for "luck" would have one more. The genius of Auburn. Love ya little bro.
Thanks for the downvote nc14phan! Too cute.

Saban is 7 years away from 70, which is why I predicted 2021. But I could also see him sticking around for another 3 years depending on his health.
But I think the way he runs the program is different than how Bowden ran his. Bowden was much more of a CEO type that wasn't has hands on, especially in his later years. I don't think Saban could ever not have his hands over the entire program. I think Bowden having less and less of a hand on the program is one of the contributing factors to the decline of his program in his later years.

I don't want him to retire, ever. I want him to lose the fire in his belly yet continue to enjoy his power position so much that he stays at bama forever. gets into the 6 or 7 win per year thing like jopa and Bowden did but no one can fire him so bama drifts into mediocrity AGAIN.
damn, I just resolved to be nice (in another thread). frick it.
