From what your saying, your idea of "pure coaching" is merely some one who can diagram x's and o's, and call certain plays/timeouts/fakes at the right time in a game.
You treat the other stuff such as "his ability to get his players to play hard for 60 minutes" as ancillary, where as I think this is the main job of a head coach.

Who had greater talent? Ill give you UGA.
LSU had greater talent in 2008. Auburn and Tennesee were at least of equal talent looking at the players who contributed.

Of course Bama boosters paying top dollar
The thing about Saban taking over the program is that our recruiting sites have gone to shite. Their is never any good information leaked. The boosters have been cut out of the system. When boosters are in the info eventually gets leaked. Now when the puppet Chizik was coach of Auburn the recruiting information being leaked was as good as gold. Their boosters were All In and the information was flowing. Its not surprising that an idiot like you would want to project though. That is why every time you post your word means nothing.

We had 1 player go above the 5th round that went out that year. Everyone else was really young.

To the OP: is he THE best at this per your definition? Probably not. But he is damn good. Regardless of the talent on the roster, winning year in year out as the preseason #1 is really hard. It requires a certain skillset in managing emotions. Of course this is a way different problem than trying to win with 2 stars. Those who constantly try to diminish his skillset to simple recruiting either have an agenda (RebsontheRise), or are senile, with an agenda(Spurrier).

Surely he faced more than 7 Top 25 teams during his years at Auburn

I think he probably would be great with bad talent. There comes a point where you can only get so much production out of college kids no matter how talented they are. You only have so much time to work with them, and egos come into play. A lot of people thought Carroll didn't get the most out of his players at USC. Now, he is one of the best coaches in the NFL.

Just look back at his Michigan State days. He wasn't the beast that he is now

I actually consider all the aspects almost equal, with recruiting having the most importance. I think Sabans ability to recruit and motivate cover up the few holes he has in strategy, most of the time anyway.

I would say no, but it's not really fair to Saban. He does a great job obviously
Guys who are better developers of talent to me include:
Patterson
D'antonio
Bert
However, all 3 of those guys would kill to get Saban's talent on a yearly basis, so Saban does a ton right

Bama players are overrated* and he has had pretty good success, so I am answering "yes".
*souce: NFL draft bust Trent Richardson and the Bama bump on recruiting sites.
