Is Saban the best at getting the most out of his players?

Lets say you had a team full of 0, 2, and 3 stars . Would Saban be your first choice to get that team 10 or more wins

Hard to say. Hell, he never has those types of players.

2008 Alabama says yes. I would also put Malzahn up there as well as Gary Pinkel.

He would have won every game by 10+ for the past 5 years of this were true.

You just described Mississippi State. I'm going with Merlins.

I wouldn't say he is the best, but he does a hell of a job with the best talent. Other coaches do a great job of getting their players to put it out on the field.

Such a subjective question.

He appears to be getting about what should. Even with the most talent you aren't going to win them all.

This. There are plenty of coaches who could compete for championships year in and year out with the type of recruiting classes that are hired by Alabama

There's no way to know. I have my doubts.

Saban wins his titles in February.

I think there are plenty of coaches who given sabans rosters at Bama would get as good or better results. Some would probably frick up and do worse though.

I wouldn't say plenty, I'd say a few. Part of Saban's genius is getting them there too, you can't just take that away.

I think you have to go with Dantonio and Pinkel here. Bert is up there due to how he develops underrated OL alone.

Ron Zook comes to mind. Recruit like Tarzan, Play like Jane.

That being said, Pinkel does more with less.

I see the hook, but Saban is very good at getting the most out of any player. The process is all about being responsible for your one job on the field and tuning out everything else.

Would love to see it. Lil Nicky can recruit like no other, but I don't think he's that good of a coach in developing talent. There's no way to know when Bama's roster is filled with 4 and 5 stars. It would be interesting to have him coach at Vandy for a few years and see what would happen. My #1 pick would be Jerry Kill. He's done an amazing job his whole career of coaching up 2 & 3 star talent.

Getting them there is what sets Saban apart.

Of course Bama boosters paying top dollar puts them over the top but Saban puts them in a position to get the interest in the first place.

Overwhelming talent can win big with sub par coaching though. The U under Coker is the classic example.
