1968 Gator Bowl:
"We were really horsewhipped. We had a lousy defense. We did not expect anyone to run down the field on us like they did, like they were playing a barber college. They toyed with us like children....They beat us every way known to man. They out-everythinged us.
We were really fortunate. The Tigers deserved to beat us by more points than they did. Of course, it was like any other college football game. The difference was in the preparation and the coaching and there was a lot of difference today."
1975, at Bama:
"All in all, it was a good ol' country beating," Bryant said. "I think we were fortunate not to be beaten worse."

How many times will this be posted? Did Mizzou fans draw straws to see who posted this in what order? It didn't help in 2012. It won't now.

Bryant coached at A&M. Said lots of nice things about them. We played them this year too.

I hope the Alabama team is reminded that Mizzou is the only SEC team we do not have a winning record against. I am pretty confident that will be remedied Saturday.

Alabama was hosed that year. They were better than Oklahoma.

I remember reading somewhere that had the BCS been around in the 1970s, Alabama would have appeared in the national championship game in 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978 and 1979.

they basically were in 1971 and 1978.
But the rankings in the month of Nov in 1975 were suspect. Had Bear (and the Sugar) agreed to the Okla-Neb loser instead of Penn State it could have been different.

One of those players transferred to an FCS school after not being able to hack it in the big leagues.
The other was named SEC offensive player of the week a couple weeks ago.
Weird how stories end up.

To be honest Mizzou might well have been the factor that kept Bama down that year. After the huge win at Alabama to start the year (our fans tore down the goalposts in Columbia, Missouri afterward even though the game was in Birmingham - yes, we rushed an empty field)...Mizzou then stumbled onward to finish 6-5 that year, no bowl. Moreover, we played Oklahoma (ranked #6 at the time) down to the very wire but fell 28-27 rather than leaving them with an upset loss on the resume like we did to Bama.

Well, in November a mediocre Kansas team thumped Oklahoma, 23-3 in Norman. Granted no one thought Ohio State would lose to UCLA in the Rose (they had beaten them 41-20 in the regular season). But OU had done nothing to warrant leaping back over Alabama in late November after the Neb win.
