Every fan base has bad fans. People can write letters, tell stories, etc all they want, but those that are treating visitors poorly probably can't read them.

Whether it's true or not is irrelevant. Every fan base has shitty fans and to encapsulate an entire fan base based on the actions of the worst seems ridiculous.

Some douche thought it was a good idea to take my hat as we were approaching the stadium. I assume he is questioning his decision making abilities now. Other than that, I had a great time with the UGA fans.

Yeah. I've had a handful of issues at UGA and LSU, my guess is that the letter is a little overly dramatic, probably looking for slights in everything, and leaves out some action on his part.

It's not unbelievable that people will get hostile treatment in Athens. It's not like the old guard, genteel UGA alum crowd can exercise complete control over a town that includes a ton of different groups, including douchebag non-students, douchey transplant students from all over the place, and redneck sidewalkers. It's a big fan base and a huge student body. I think it is probably harder to get everyone on the same page than say, Auburn or Clemson.

But I didn't sense "hostility in the air" like I have on a couple of other occasions, and I'm a UGA hater extraordinaire.

I'd believe it. They have turned into TERRIBLE fans since I was a student at AU back in the 90's. We went to the 2010 game at JHS and had to call security on a bunch of thug UGA fans behind us (and we were not in the visitor section). Thankfully they escorted them out of the stadium and may have arrested them, not sure. One of them pushed our then 11 year old down the stairs into the people a few rows below us, threw their drinks on the people behind us, and then one of them puked all in the aisle....all while yelling vulgarities with people's kids, etc around. It was awful.

One of our friends has a son in the AU band and was telling us about the UGA fans throwing things at the AU band and just other acts of typical low class fans.

I gotta call complete BS on this one.

It's sooo typical of the barners after an arse whipping like they just suffered.

Just a routine booger attempt at deflecting attention from being taken to the woodshed.

I don't doubt some things happened but when a guy admits to being shitfaced who knows what their group did to begin with. I think it is stupid to write such a letter at all.

Why would those two schools be easier than at UGA or LSU?

LSU is different, I'd toss them out. They're kinda prideful about hostility, even if it is a thin cover for pretty decent hospitality.

Auburn is about half the size of UGA, with a lot fewer ancillary folks in town and coming in for the party. Athens has a wide variety of characters unconnected with the school that Auburn just doesn't really have. Now I don't think failing musicians and hipsters are usually the aggressive parties, but nonetheless AU just doesn't have these folks as residents. From my high school, a ton of douchebag and fight-starting types would go to Athens for games, and they would do everything separately from actual UGA students. I didn't see this much at AU. Kids would definitely come in, but they'd usually assimilate into whatever their AU student friends were doing.

There is just a lot more going on with Athens than Auburn.

Unfortunately, these things are becoming more common. I haven't had any bad experiences at UGA but did have have some obnoxious folks in South Carolina. The worst was LSU. Took my wife there once and we WERE spit on. Also wore a nice cup of bourbon that was thrown at me. I would have gladly drank it had it been offered. After that game in 2010 I stopped going. I don't even attend the LSU game in T town. My wife was called awful names and we were harrassed from our parking spot over by the old basketball arena to the stadium non stop. Just not worth it. I'll watch that one on TV and not have my wife upset by a freakin football game. People won't believe this and that's fine. Lots of people have similar stories. Never had any trouble with Florida, UT or really anybody else. I wont go back to an Alabama-LSU game for a while. At least until Saban leaves. It's a shame these things happen.

My worst away game experience was in Athens. Not anything close to this, but it really isn't a good road game experience. I have a great time with my UGA friends tailgating etc, but there seem to be a small portion that go out of their way to make sure you don't have a good time.

I do have good experiences on any other day of the year, other than gameday.
