How can I tell if someone is a veteran?

I own a business and would like to offer a free deal to veterans and active duty service members tomorrow. Is there an easy way to tell who is real and who isn't? Maybe a VA card or something? I don't want any fakers trying to get in on the goodness.

Ask to see their CAC card or retirement ID. All active duty/retirees should have one

Ask for their CAC if they're active duty and their retirement ID if they're retired

Shame on you for worshiping those who carry out the evils dictated by the imperialist elite

There's ID cards, but usually nobody will say anything unless you ask.
I've been giving military/vet discounts since I've been open and haven't really had an issue. If someone wants to pretend to be a Vet, I guess that's on them, I don't really bust anyone.
If you're trying to give them a discount without advertising the discount, look for USAA debit/credit cards. Sometimes it's family, which probably deserves the discount too, but when I ask someone with a USAA card if they're military/vet and their dad was actually the one in the military or something, they usually decline the discount.

Good point. I've lost track of how many times I've been offered a military discount I didn't know was available because my debit card tipped 'em off.

Or an ID: 10 Tango form

Ask them to recite their service's oath. I promise you nobody outside the military will know that.

If not the oath, their branch song (for army). Might be a bit funny too,

I'm a vet.
I have no fricking idea what you're talking about.

Must be a localized thing. When I worked at the armory a bunch of vets always played pranks on some of the new hires. They'd tell them to get the ID10 tango form, which pretty much spells out IDIOT.
Then they'd ALWAYS tell the story of getting the new guy to get the humvee keys. shite like that.

Do they still use SNAFU and FUBAR?

I've heard FUBAR plenty. Never SNAFU.
Just want to clarify I've never been in, nor claim to be in the military.
Just worked with a lot of military guys at my old job.

Ask them if they were ever told to go get a box of grid squares or blinker fluid from supply.
