Should the SEC West teams schedule scrub OOC games?

They can make the playoffs going undefeated or by having one loss by playing their tough SEC schedule. What's the point of scheduling big OOC games every year like LSU and BAMA do? MSU scheduled all OOC scrubs and they are number 1. I'm sure if Mich St didn't play Oregon, they would be top 4 right now. I don't think SOS means anything anymore like it used to. The panel of voters are a joke anyhow. They should take the top 4 BCS teams

Wat? What OOC opener has Bama scheduled when they were in the Top 10-15? VT? Nope. WVU? Nope. Frankly, they are smart by getting those games - zero risk of losing, yet it's a "marquee" win due to history.

Remember they have made a rule where you have to schedule a power 5 team. And scrub games are not that fun.

I would be disappointed if Tennessee stopped scheduling the likes ore Oregon and Oklahoma. I like meeting other big school fan bases and makes a good excuse for a fall vacation.

I enjoy our OOC game with Georgia every year.

Uhhhhh, Virginia Tech 2009 bro. They gave us hell for 3 quarters in that game and was the top team in the ACC that year.
Get off yor high horse.

WVU finished #17 and had just beaten a top 15 Clemson team 70-33 in the Orange Bowl. They certainly looked like a good opponent.
VA Tech was scheduled both times after ACC championships under their belt.
I didn't know conference titles rated so low to you.

Why schedule them? Because of years like this. If k state wins out or has 2 losses it gives AU a better shot at a playoff spot than if we replaced that game with unlv

you should've just said "SEC teams", and my answer would still be no.
Any SEC team that goes 11-1 or undefeated and wins the SEC is making the final 4, period. I've always said it's dumb to scheudle another hard game when there's no need to. At least, for UF/UGA/SC it is becuase we alreayd have a built in OOC game with our in state rivals. Teams that don't...eeeehhhhhh that gets a little iffy but I still agree with what I said above. I mean, look no further than the #1 team in the country right now and their OOC.

Good point.
Their OOC is garbage. And you are right- it doesn't even matter.

The whole "making the playoffs" thing simply boils down to winning as many games as you can. Adding a tough, top 15-ish type team instead of a cupcake doesn't help in that regard. SEC teams play a hard enough schedule anyway.

they should do the opposite - two good games ooc and you should increase your shot of making it as an at large
at least that's what i wish, i'm not really sure if that type of thinking will be rewarded by the committee

Maybe it should, but it doesn't. Look at Michigan State right now, I bet they wish they hadn't scheduled Oregon and played some cupcake instead.

I think your point applies in spades to a team that will win its conference and have an inside track at making the final four as a regional representative. That's exactly what the guys at Baylor seem to think.
I think there's a different situation in the SEC West. If you have a decreased chance of winning your conference IMO your only good argument to make it as an at large is to go out and beat a couple of good teams from other conferences.
Again, I'm not sure the committee will be transparent with respect to their criteria but IMO this is what they should do. Otherwise there is no good incentive for any great team from any conference to play worthy ooc opponents.

Watch MSU plummet though with a loss
I'm more concerned with the SEC title game at this point. Maybe it's time to scrap divisions and put the top two teams in that game

I think good OOC games are great for the fans. Furthermore, if you are going to claim to be the best conference, you need to prove it during the season.
The SEC West held up its end, with good OOC victories v the Big Ten and Big 12. Georgia beat an ACC team that was probably the second best (not saying much).
Beating teams like Wisconsin, K State, WVU and Clemson are one of the major reasons we have a shot with a two loss SEC champ.
PS thanks Mizzou and Tenn for dropping the ball.

Michigan St will need some help to get in the playoff even if they win out. The SEC, FSU, Oregon, and Big XII are all ahead of them right now. However, if Mich St had played a directional school instead of Oregon, they'd be #3 and sitting pretty right now.

Because for some people the entertainment of actually watching football games is worth it. Some of us aren't totally consumed with the easiest path to a championship, but enjoy watching football games week to week.

I think every team in the west should schedule UT chattanooga....maybe even Ga School for the blind...

So it would be better for Mich St to play a scrub during the season, but lose to Oregon in the playoffs? I don't see it.
You could just as easily say, "if Mich St had beaten Oregon, they'd be #2 and sitting pretty right now." If they get waxed by Oregon in the regular season, there's very little chance they'd beat them in the playoffs.
