Does Florida have, or has Florida ever had, a live gator as a mascot?

Sure, until the great UF mascot tragedy of 1976. It made all the papers, you must be a young one to not remember it. I was there, it was horrible. All that chomping.........I still don't sleep around water.

Seriously, we have thousands of live Gator mascots, we just don't bring them to the stadium.
Swim in Lake Alice to meet them, up close and personal.

Even if they didn't they couldn't bring it to the game.

Unlike the land-based mascots (including Tusk and Mike--if the latter ever decides to leave his palace ) or even Nova, alligators need to be near water.

There used to be a live mascot that they kept in a pen (1950s maybe?). It was huge. FSU fans killed it.

So do Gators roam the campus sometimes?

Did a gator with a gatorbell walk onto the field during a football game?

They stay in Lake Alice. We also have bat houses.

The pregame on the Big Screen at the Swamp, is one of the best, but the SEC also has the Auburn entrance, and maybe South Carolina to compete for the best.

The Razorbacks just started a new entrance and is a work in progress. Hopefully, it will be in the same class as the three above.
