Putting Mizzou on upset alert - Mizzou @ Toledo

Toledo's QB is Philip Ely who transferred from Bama. They threw for 360 and ran for 306 against New Hampshire yesterday, winning 54-20. Not saying Toledo will win, but it may just be one of the more interesting games on an otherwise pretty uneventful Saturday coming up.

Early lines have Mizzou as a 6 point favorite. I'm not touching that.

Yikes.
I know that Mizzou looked pedestrian against SDSU...but damn.

I think Mizzou will cover that no sweat.

I hate weeks when all the SEC matchups suck

This will be Toledo's super bowl, they are playing at home, and look to have a balanced offense led by a QB who was recruited by the likes of Bama, LSU, and Clemson.
South Dakota State's QB went 21/28 @ Mizzou.
Mizzou should obviously be the favorite here, but I wouldn't put $ on them to cover 6.

I don't know, he threw for over 300 yards with no interceptions in his first start for Toledo. He's also pretty quick for a pocket passer. It will be interesting to see how he does against Mizzou as opposed to New Hampshire.

Gotta love shite talk coming from a fan of a team that hasn't won an SEC game in almost 2 years. SOOOOOO-EEEEEEE! I was not impressed with Mizzou saturday either but it was a non-conf. opponent that was a top 8 FCS team and why would you show your best plays and schemes before conference games? Very vanilla and I would have played it the same way if I were an SEC coach. That is why most non-conf. games Pinkel coaches are generally competitive and not usually blowouts.

We played like shite our first game.
If this game is close, then I'll start to worry.
I'm guessing this week will go like this. First Mizzou is put on upset watch, then that shifts to a lot of posters picking Toledo to win. Then Mizzou will win the game handily, and the rant will say "yeah, but it's Toledo"

I wanted the 9 game conference schedule.

Mizzou always looks like shite early in the season against this kind of competition. All we do is call the most vanilla offense, and we just aren't practicing for it ~ so the timing is a little off. Expect the pass game to look inept again while we do a pretty decent job running the ball.

John Hamm is a Mizzou alumnus

Didn't see the game. How did Mizzou's dbs look? Were the SDSU receivers wide open all over the place, or was the QB making some well placed passes.
Break downs in coverage? That can be fixed.

all of the above. The backup QB was not expected as the starter is a 3year starter. Since there was no tape on the backup QB lots of interesting things happened:
1) Obviously, the D had no idea of the QB's tendencies. This showed itself a few times.
2) When SDSU went pass happy, the DBs got caught in zone and the safeties/CBs weren't handing WRs off well. As the game went on, the DBs started locking it down.
3) The backup QB was making some great throws in small windows. I was really impressed with his performance.
4) One SDSU WR had a phenomenal game. He was catching everything thrown his way and they weren't easy catches. He was making leaping catches in traffic and on the sidelines. I think he was #19. he wasn't super fast or athletic but just knew how to catch.
So yes, there was plenty of stuff that was fixable but you have to tip your hat to SDSU. They looked like an FCS playoff team and equivalent to a middle tiered FBS program. That RB was legit.

Couple poor plays by the DBs, but our scheme is soft zone. We give up a lot of passing yards, but cause a lot of turnovers and get a lot of sacks. It's how we play.

Sadly, this is probably the best game this weekend in the SEC.
