So my sister lives a bit in the country and she woke up this morning to a fawn on her doorstep (aww)
Obviously she is going to keep an eye in it and hope the mama deer comes back, but if it doesn't, what do you do with stray deer? Should she try and raise it? I know deer can be like dogs if raised from a young age, but idk it's kind of weird I guess
We don't want to call anyone and have it put down obviously or leave it outside to be viscously attacked by coyotes.
What would the OT do?

deer make awesome pets except for the crap they leave and do to your lawn.

Maybe call the local vet and see what suggestions they have. There are some animal shelters that will take in a variety of animals as well

Mama will eventually find it.

Well, after laying on the doorstep for a few hours, my moms husband says if finally got up and just stumbled back into the woods. That's good I guess?
My mom (she lives in the same area) says she's going to check out the area of the woods it walked into and if it's still there, she sounds like she isn't opposed to raising it.
Hopefully mama called it though or something.

Where she lives is very important.
In Alabama it is illegal for a private citizen to keep a deer as a pet. If you're caught, the odds are very, very high that DCNR will (a) fine you and (b) destroy the deer.
If you're in Alabama and momma doesn't find it, contact these people: LINK

Isnt it a crime to keep wildlife?

As the previous posters have said, make sure you check local laws regarding keeping wildlife.

Sounds like in Alabama it is. I'll be sure to check the local laws if we decide to keep it, deer pigs
Jk, for real we didn't know it was illegal to keep, so glad we are made aware. I'm not sure if it's come out of the woods or not, haven't spoken with my mom or sister since they told me it hobbled back into the woods

My uncle owns it, she just rents it from him. I'm not doing his work for him

Kill it. You will never taste venison more tender.

Agreed, but at least slap the frick out of him for having a purple door (and probably matching shutters)

Give it a paint brush. I'm sure it could do any worse.

Ha, well it was my grandmother's house and she passed on Christmas Eve and he inherited it. My grandmother had old people tastes.
