To be honest, it told me something about Nick's ego and fragility.
A true egomaniac would have taken it. Being worshipped by the unwashed wouldn't be good enough, he'd want worship from a higher class of people. Ultimately, he chose to be big fish in a small pond, to continue the worship from the little people.
As a result, he's not quite as ambitious as I thought. I figured he couldn't be content in a situation like this, but I was wrong.
Some of the best jobs in the college footbal have been up for grabs in the last 7 yrs. USC - Notre Dame - Tennessee - Texas - Miami - PennState - Florida - Ohio State.
Maybe, just maybe after that Texas horseshite from last year folks will finally realize the man will retire from Bammer.

If you think the uptight rubes who run the teasip BOR would ever approve of that insane salary, LOL at you.

Money no doubt. That's what he turned down. But star power and legend status? UTA has no advantage there for a football coach

Cute. A used car salesman and an ambulance-chasing lawyer run that school.

I'm mostly messing around, but I think it has the potential to be tops. Being a legend at Texas would be more than being a legend anywhere else. But you're far less likely to be one at Texas, and it isn't a place that loves its icons, unlike Alabama.

Did your current melt start in 2005 or 2007?

I think he realized he was too old to start over at Texas,
wouldn't take more than a year to turn around a program like texas

eh, if he plans on coaching for 8-10 more years, he's not. spurrier wasn't much younger when he took over at south carolina.
honestly, texas is probably the easiest job in college football to be successful. saban wouldn't have had to work nearly as hard recruiting and would have had as much and more the financial support and AD support he has at alabama

You guys have a good football program, but come on. Austin vs. Ttown, UT vs. UA, money, star power, legend status. No comparison, UTA wins in every one.
What?
I'll give you Austin over T-Town, and I'll even give you money, though we'd offer him a blank check to stay if we had to.
Star power? No. Just no.
Legend status? Really? Alabama is the GOAT CFB program. Bear Bryant alone is more legend status than most programs, then you add in the likes of Joe Namath, Bart Starr, Don Hudson, etc, and Bama's ahead of Texas.

arison, UTA wins in every one.
No. Texas is a top 5 program all time, but they're not Bama.

I still maintain the belief that Saban and Texas had come to an agreement, but he got pissed off then backed out once it started to leak. If Texas sources have been able to keep their mouths shut until after the Sugar Bowl, he is at Texas right now

Is Saban really just waiting around until Spurrier retires to see if he can come to SC and do what Spurrier has yet to do?
That seems to be the rumor that I'm starting now.

Really? Even if they though it meant a guranteed NC trophy for the case? I don't know about that, I mean, you guys have a hella lot of money.. they have more. Somehow I think it's more about the politics or some other weirdness than the actual money.

How the frick do you know? Alabama is a way bigger job than any of those or anywhere else he'd previously coached.
don't disagree; however, there is no doubt in my mind that saban would have come back to LSU without hesitation had that been an option. It honestly was just a perfect storm for both Saban and Alabama that things worked out the way they did

Star power? No. Just no.
How many true stars come through Alabama? As in, JFF, Cam Newton, Matt Leinart type of folks. Where the attention exceeds just football, and borders on celebrity? Not many. Alabama is a blue collar football program, and a good one. But it isn't sexy, like Texas would be.
As for Bear, who is really the only Alabama icon universally admired, it's part success and part cultural phenomenon. In today's age, Bear would be a bigger national icon from Texas than Alabama. It's pretty simple.

oh i do. he may have even had more. if they were actually throwing that kind of money at him, do you really think he wouldn't have had the support he has at alabama?
