Texas went from Saban "lock" to Gruden "lock"..then trickled down to Shaw, Briles etc.

There's a reason why Texas has only 1 national title in the last 45 years. In order to be the head coach of the Longhorns, you need to be able to juggle football and the politics that comes with the job. You are not the most powerful man in Texas like you are in Alabama when you're the head coach. You still have to answer to the boosters and good ole boys. Until they get rid of that antiquated system, Texas will never be as successful as their fan base wants them to be.

I'm guessing the youth and audiobook versions will sell really well.
I figured it would only come as a picture book

C'mon, you know what I'm saying. You guys are ahead of Bama too, but UT admittedly is pretty high profile and attracts a higher level of student and fan.

Student, yes. Fan, hell no. They're white trash with a delusional sense of grandeur.

As a result, he's not quite as ambitious as I thought. I figured he couldn't be content in a situation like this, but I was wrong.
To further what I was saying, I think he likely tempered his ambition with the risk/reward factor, he is as old as Pinkel, so he has limited time, and while rebuilding Bevo may not be the monumental time intensive task as some programs, if he did fail, he would not only be crashing the team, he would be crashing the conference.
Would you want to go out as the guy who not only failed at saving a program but brought down a conference in the process? A lot of potential risk for a guy that owns multiple million dollar lake houses and before it's over could own many more.
Yea it's a sh*tload of money but it's also a lot of stress and strain with that responsibility, maybe dude just decided he didn't want to make any harder for himself to sleep at night.

You guys have a good football program, but come on. Austin vs. Ttown, UT vs. UA, money, star power, legend status. No comparison, UTA wins in every one.

Have you been to Austin recently? Crowded, expensive, overrated.

That's just the rivalry talking. In honesty, they're probably the classiest/wealthiest fan base in major college football.

If salaries are headed to that stratosphere, good luck to the ticket buying public. College football is not headed in a very good direction.

Unbelievable. You're just trolling right now.

And let's not forget the "I will not be the next head coach at Alabama" garbage he kept spewing ad nauseum
I only recall him saying it once, but I have noticed LSU fan's recollection of those events resemble a fish story told years later.

Have a REALLY hard time believing anyone would turn down that kind of offer and just re-sign for a 6.9 million extension. The story is either complete bullshite and just a printed version of all the internet gossip or something happened that killed the deal that no one knows. I just have a hard time believing anyone would be able to turn down an offer twice as much as they were getting paid when they were already the highest paid coach in football. That deal would have made him the highest paid coach in the history of sports by a pretty significant margin. That signing bonus alone is more than most coaches entire contract

Saban's reputation still hasn't recovered from the move from Miami. If he left UA after all of the denials, he'd have no goodwill left and probably lose a lot of trust on the recruiting trail.
