Do people take these SPARQ competitions serious?

Or more specifically are these verts officially used? This mat shite is stupid. Mine on those things is almost respectable, and much higher than it actually is.

Sparq is so stupid.... auburn had a linebacker recruit a few years ago who was a sparq beast... and a terribly shitty linebacker.

I think you can take it with a grain of salt. You will always have combine warriors that improve their stock because they look like Tarzan and no one can figure out why they play like Jane.
And the opposite of that is guys like Terry Godwin running a 4.6. However, when the guy puts pads on he turns into a beast.
It's just a showcase.

No one caught Jerry Rice from behind. I think he ran a 4.6 or something.

Pretty meh on the sparq stuff. It's all for show.

We all know that it doesn't always correlate to on field play. Just like guys that practice shitty and play great and vice versa.

I get that it doesn't show what type of football player a kid is. It's a nice way to see how athletic someone is though. I'm talking more about the vert. It's painfully obvious that every human that ever steps on that thing is going to try to cheat it, and it easy as hell to cheat. What I'm asking is...
why do away with the pole thing?!

Not sure, obviously they felt that it was a better way to measure a vertical. Not saying it is, but they obviously did.

Oh the mat is bs - those numbers are all for show but the rest of the scores are ok. The problem with SPARQ is that it favors smaller guys over bigger ones. So you kinda have to know that a lineman posting a 100 or better is outrageously good and adjust it all yourself. None of the SPARQ measurements are the end all be all but they do help a lot of prospects get noticed, especially under the radar prospects - that's what they're best for (lot of kids at small schools will start getting looked at and considered if they post a good SPARQ when before no one paid any attention to the tape they were sending out).

I only take it seriously if one our commits does well.
If not, it's a joke and not meant to be taken seriously.

I look at it like star ratings: could mean something, could not mean something. But still something to talk about...

Agree, I'm surprised it doesn't have some kind of adjustment.
It does make Malik's #s look that much more impressive though.

I think you are on to something.

Malik, Sweat, etc.
The only advantage the big guys have in the SPARQ is the ball toss. Their size SHOULD give them an advantage.
Then again, even that is mostly form. I watched Mailk toss his rock for the first time in the finals last night. Dude was holding the ball from the outsides. Not behind the ball and pushing away.
Needless to say, attempt number one was a failure. Not sure how he did the second time.

Just look at Kahlil McKenzie's score and realize he's 341 lbs! The only guy close to his weight range that scored higher is 30lbs lighter.
Malik's scores are very, very, good (period) but if he was 20lbs lighter they'd likely be even higher.
So yeah they definitely need to adjust accordingly but remember the finals are for broadcast/TV and no one wants to see the big guys jumping up and down in spandex. So that probably plays a role in why they haven't adjusted the scores.
