I see pics of him at practice with no shirt and no shoes and I know he is just loving what he does.

Spurrier could do what Saban has done at Alabama.
Could Saban do what Spurrier has done at South Carolina?
It's apples and oranges man.

Based on what? His run in the 90s inside a conference which pretty much became a three-team league for the majority of the decade? He didn't even have the best team in Florida throughout the majority of his tenure there. Sometimes he didn't even have the second best team in Florida. Had Florida been playing in the ACC or the Big East during that time, Spurrier would have only won one or two conference titles at the maximum.

Uh...yeah, and more. South Carolina has a passionate fan base, they are more than willing to throw money at the football program, and South Carolina is snuggled against the fertile recruiting grounds of Georgia and Florida. There have also been some pretty legit in-state players here lately. Nick Saban loves recruiting above all things. He would bring talent to South Carolina the same way he brought it to LSU.

Yep, I'm just hoping the Tide can squeak out 4 or 5 wins this season...

He's actually been a lot more favorable towards South Carolina recently. It's refreshing.

And it's the reason the game will retire him & not the opposite
I've said it a million times, Bama was very fortunate to get him

You're quite the expert. How do you know these things?

You're calling me a broken record when I'm merely commenting on another broken record?

I assume there will be plenty of "that's Spurrier being OBC" posts in this thread and any notion otherwise will be "butthurt", but why does he mention Alabama and Nick Saban so much? Who continues to ask him these questions to even approach the subject of someone he hasn't faced since 2010?

If our offenses had consistently had a plan other than "lol we're more talented let's be balanced and win with just talent", things may be different.

He's an old man, in the twilight of his career, who is looking back on it and wishing he had stayed at Florida instead of going to the NFL. He also wants recognition for what he's done at South Carolina but can't get the amount he feels he deserves due to what has been happening in Tuscaloosa since 2008.

Pretty funny to see the stark contrast in philosophies of the conference's two best coaches. Wouldn't surprise me to see Spurrier playing golf competitively at age 90 and Saban to die as soon as he stops coaching.
No, Gumps, I don't want Saban to die, I'm just saying.

Just admit your hate for Spurrier and move on.

I believe it's been documented by me multiple times on this board that I am not a fan of Steve Spurrier. Had his team been the only team in your way for greatness for much of the 1990s you probably would dislike him, too. But you never had to worry about that.

Just think about where the OBC would be in his career if he would only work hard.
Posted on 6/22/14 at 7:41 pm to SneakySally
I think he's done just fine.
