What did he plea to? I'm guessing it wasn't child cruelty to get some parenting classes.

We did our ruck marches with a 50 lb pack...and those were 10k +. I see no problem with a father dusting his son off like this. Beats the hell out of an hour of Front-Back- Go's

It was voluntary. I was in JROTC and I attended it in Augusta Georgia.

And here I was thinking you were a problem child Floyd

Sounds like it was a bit much, but it didn't warrant an arrest on a child cruelty charge. Must be nice to be a police department or child protective services department to have so little to worry about that they threw a child cruelty charge at that.

No, I don't see any reason for the courts to get involved with anything that is not specifically stated as law. Thing is, laws are interpreted and can get so far from the actual law that it isn't even related. The only difference in what the courts do to paroles and probationers and what this guy did with his son, is that the courts have to control everything. I get worked up talking about it, because our system makes me sick.

The kid wasn't beaten. He wasn't abandoned. His mother backed the father.

Stupid to arrest the father. I got worse, my dad was an air force kid and went to the air force academy himself.
We did push ups all the time. Had to sit in the imaginary chair, hold his air force 30.06 and count backwards from 178 to zero, mess up start over. The 178 was the # of beer cans he found hidden in a trash bags when him and mother got home after leaving my older brother and I home alone one weekend while in high school. It was fricking hard and I started over a few times. Made sure we hid the cans better next time
Our punishments were always some sort of physical exercise. Push ups, sit ups, imaginary chair, run laps, etc. Rarely did we get spanked but when we did, we had to go pick the belt. That was the worst part. LOL.
So no I don't think that was excessive nor deserves any type of punishment.

The 3 a.m. part was pointless. Obviously going to detract from his studies at school etc.
Don't care much about the brick and the walk, hopefully the dad stayed with him though. Sounds like he just dropped him off.
At 3 a.m. that's putting your child at some risk walking along the highway.
It's excessive, first degree child cruelty though? That's a bit much.

I am ex military as well. Are you drawing some type of conclusion as ex-military being thugs?

Sounds like the only thing the dad did wrong was have the kid walk the highway where pussies could see his son becoming more responsible. They didn't like it much.
In all seriousness, other than having him walk on the road alone, I see nothing wrong with this.

My next door neighbor growing up was in the battle of the Bulge at 16.
I don't see a crime here. Kids today are so soft.

The dad sounds like a dick but there's nothing wrong with what he did. Maybe the kid was a real prick and needed straightening out.
