I think we improve on defense.
I think under.
Last year was around 24ppg.

I think we will stay in the 24 range. We have some tough games and a tough schedule overall. While other teams are breaking in quarterbacks, we will breaking in new DBs for them to take advantage of. If the JUCO guys come in and can compete out of the gate providing good quality depth, then we have a chance at under.

Given most teams are breaking in new QBs I think 22 is a bit high. It's less than a field goal lower than last year's average. 20 is a more reasonable number IMO.
On the other hand, we should be blowing more teams out this year so other team's could be pushing for big plays to try to stay in the games so the average could go up.
I guess what I'm saying is I'm torn.

IMO, this will be the best Auburn defense we've seen since 2008. Carl Lawson, Monty Adams, Elijah Daniel, Gabe Wright, Ben Bradley, Angelo Blackson, Cass McKinzy, Kris Frost, Derrick Moncrief, Jermaine Whitehead, John Mincy, and so forth... We have a ton of talent and a lot of depth/experience across the defensive line.

Any chance defense gives up less than 17ppg?
That would be old school AU defense compared to what we've seen the last 5 years.

I'll say 18 PPG. I'll say the defensive line covers up the weak DB's.

quote:JMO but I don't think our D will be that good yet. I think the 2015 D will have a better chance of that at least from our 1st string guys. We will lose 5 projected starters but the replacements will have already had significant playing time.

With that said, I am not sure a true HUNH D can hold teams to 17 PPG through a whole season. Really though, If we hold teams to 20 a game in the Gus era we will win a sheet load of games.

FWIW CEJ had 1 season at SCe where the Cocks allowed 18.8 points a game, year 4. Every other season was 20.5 ppg or higher.

I was always floored that Reed didn't move over to DB a couple years ago. It was obvious out of the gate that he lacked the big play ability on the college level whether due to size, due to quickness or just due to level playing field. He has/had the ability to be a true shutdown corner on the college level and possibly the pro level and he wasted years on offense. Now he is a senior and that time can't be gotten back so he better work his arse off to make a name for himself if he wants an opportunity at the pros.

Or Mettenburger... and facing Winston again is probably slim.
Damn, we faced some good QBs last year.

I think well be improved. Thing is, whether we score or punt Gus' offense is off the field fast. That gives the opposing offense a lot of chances.

Also, I could see more mop up duty garbage time scores against our subs. I will say over

Hopefully under. I do think the D will be improved. I'm not sure we are at the point of Coach Tub class D's quite yet.

Definitely under. We are going to be significantly better IMO. Not counting Fsu, the 4 best offenses we faced last year will all probably take a step back with new qb- UGA, atm, bama, lsu.
We could be around 20 ppg imo. Maybe even under that. As already mentioned, we may give up a significant amount of garbage points though as we should have some substantial leads late in a lot of games.

I think 22 sounds just about right.

I think Jonathon Jones is going to shine this year if he stays healthy. Getting JG and Holsey back is a definite upgrade as well. Not to mention no Holland
