Don't quite understand the national media railing on UT for not extending Martin's contract. The guy had decent years while at UT, but his team underperformed all year then make a "magic" run in the tourney and the school is just suppossed to throw a bunch of money at him?

I say kudos to UT for not doing what so many other schools has done in the past by extending coach contracts only to realize they aren't worth it. Yes... it could have been handled a little better by all involved but at the end of the day UT did the right thing. Their fans and all their complaining, petitions, etc,. ... well...

And for $2+ mil they should be able to get a coach that can get them going again. Who that is I don't know but Howland wouldn't be on my list. I would dig deep and pay the $2.5 and get Wichita State's coach. You know what you are getting and he is a darn good one.

Tubby wants out of TT. To be honest he was the second name that I thought of when this job came open.

Y'all bitch about Cuonzo's boring brand of basketball and go after Howland and Tubby

No one cares about his brand. That was just some horse shite way for the Pearlophiles to say they wanted Bruce back. Cuonzo's problem was that he was mediocre for 3 years minus 3 weeks.

Stay away from our coach

The LSU bench is chock full of "recruiters" (including the HC) At some point they're going to have to get someone who can teach basketball.

Tubby Smith is now the definition of mediocre

Howland isn't much better

Howland is much, much better. UCLA is delusional about their basketball program. And before people say that Tennessee is delusional, our 'delusion' consists of making the NCAA tournament more often than not, while UCLA's delusion consists of finding the next Wooden.

I agree about Tubby at this point in time.

2 lossed in the round of 32

First of all, I'm talking about making a hire right now. I'd feel much better with Howland in 2014 than Tubby in 2014.

Second, what was the record of UCLA the three years before Howland took over? I know I don't need to tell you about the strength of the UK program before Tubby.

It fell apart in the end, but he won a conference title his last year, and he was fantastic at Pitt and Northern Arizona. I'll gladly roll the dice on him.

He sure did kill at UCLA his last couple of years.

Can't believe how he wasted so much talent on that team. Would seem impossible.

Meh, he lost control of the program which led to a high attrition rate which led to him losing the players we needed and it was his time to go. People forget when he came to UCLA, we were coming off our first losing season in 50+ years. He turned it around and did some good things. He can still coach, just not at a big time program

He went to 3 STRAIGHT FINAL FOURS!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!

He went to 2 and did it with 2 of the top 10 players in the NBA right now. You aren't getting any Kevin Love's or Russell Westbrook's at Tennessee.
