Should collegiate athletes receive stipends?

I'm currently working on a analytical research essay that is worth just about the whole grade in the course. My research will include scholarly articles, books, and studies providing different perspectives on the matter. Would like to get some input on the side of fans in the SEC to gain a view on their input. Keep in mind this applies to all collegiate athletes. I will post my final research when completed in the future. Thank you.

IMO, no.
A full scholarship to a university is plenty.
But I think being allowed to use your own name to make money should be allowed. The NCAA should not have full reign on a kid's name.

Over the, up to 19k, they can currently get?

They should get full cost of attendance covered, which they may or may not already get (I can't remember). But no more

While I think they should, I'll say no. It would be way too easy to abuse that power and give more money to players than whatever the amount is set at.
Give Collin a shout. Kain Colter and the rest of the NW 'cats are the ones who are spearheading this issue.

I've never seen a college athlete that wasn't clothed, well fed, or getting educated so whatever they are getting now is plenty.

No it will put small programs out of business when they can't even breakseven now.

Yes, they should get paid.
But no athletic scholarships (still eligible for academic ones). And they still have to pay tuition just like every other mofo.

No, it would ruin the game.
Plus, it just isnt feasible. Every public school would have to pay all the athletes in every sport. There are a handful of schools that could do that and not have it put a huge dent in their finances.

No, they are getting a free college education and eat at a great training table free of charge.

so I'm coming at this as a former college athlete. first off not everyone is on a full ride in non football sports. my sport only got 9.9 scholarships to fill a team, women got 14 (thanks title ix.) anywho back in my day bama only served 15-18 meals a week and broke us off a few hundred biweekly to cover the rest, if your scholly covered that. obviously selling books you got for free was a perk. I liked the free Nike shite too.
with that said sports like mine make negative dollars... it's highly unlikely to be kept around if the bill expands. I'd much rather see more people like me get the opportunity to compete and get educated than only a few sports get paid while others get axed. I was blessed enough to end up at a school with big football money, some of the stories from friends at less loved programs had way lower end facilities. I know most of them couldn't afford the influx of additional costs at all. it's entirely not what college athletics are about.

They already do. I'm sure someone has pointed this out already.
If they want to get paid, then they can give up their scholarships and pay for college like the rest of us.

No, but as a compensation for their loyal service, they should be allowed to smoke as much pot as they want without being kicked off the team, aka The Lester Clause.

I'll say yes. Collegiate sports are like a full time job on top of classes. Not saying these kids live a woeful life by any means, but they do work hard and a lot of money is made off their backs. Obviously I agree that they have the opportunity to receive a good education in return, which is huge.
Just have the NCAA foot the bill, they're good for it.

The question that must be answered is why? What is your foundation statement?
Personally I am not for additional benefits to scholarship athletes. Another question is what is wrong with current rules relative to extra benefits that needs addressing?
