This used to take a few days to die in some cases

But it was more of a drawn out execution method than torture.

Prisoners of war were subjected to vivisection without anesthesia.[15] Vivisections were performed on prisoners after infecting them with various diseases. Scientists performed invasive surgery on prisoners, removing organs to study the effects of disease on the human body. These were conducted while the patients were alive because it was feared that the decomposition process would affect the results.[16] The infected and vivisected prisoners included men, women, children, and infants.[17]
Prisoners had limbs amputated in order to study blood loss. Those limbs that were removed were sometimes re-attached to the opposite sides of the body. Some prisoners' limbs were frozen and amputated, while others had limbs frozen then thawed to study the effects of the resultant untreated gangrene and rotting.
Some prisoners had their stomachs surgically removed and the esophagus reattached to the intestines. Parts of the brain, lungs, liver, etc. were removed from some prisoners.[15][18]

The Pear of Anguish.

They would stick it in a mans butthole or a woman's vagina and twist the bottom, it would then open up like a flower.

I found a list.

LINK

Their number 1 was

quote:

1. The Head Crusher The head crusher comprised of a chin placed on a bottom bar, and the head was under a cap. The torturer then would turn a screw, pushing the cap down, bringing the victim's head closer and closer to the bottom bar. Teeth shattered (hey! no flossing!), and you died of slow, agonizing pain, but, the coup de gras, you were concious while your eyes popped out of your skull. Yeah, I know, you cringed. If stopped halfway, there would be permanently damaged in their brain, as well as their jaw or eyes.

Scaphism, also known as the boats,[1] was supposedly an ancient Persian method of execution designed to inflict torturous death that was described by the Persians' archenemies, the Greeks. The name comes from the Greek s??f?, skáphe, meaning "anything scooped (or hollowed) out".

The intended victim was stripped naked and then firmly fastened within the interior space of two narrow rowing boats (or hollowed-out tree trunks) joined together one on top of the other with the head, hands and feet protruding. The condemned was forced to ingest milk and honey to the point of developing a severe bowel movement and diarrhea, and more honey would be rubbed on his exposed appendages to attract insects. He would then be left to float on a stagnant pond or be exposed to the sun. The defenseless individual's feces accumulated within the container, attracting more insects which would eat and breed within his exposed flesh, which—pursuant to interruption of the blood supply by burrowing insects—became increasingly gangrenous. The feeding would be repeated each day in some cases to prolong the torture, so that fatal dehydration or starvation did not occur. Death, when it eventually occurred, was probably due to a combination of dehydration, starvation and septic shock. Delirium would typically set in after a few days.

Pretty rough.

The worst has to be

Being tied upside down between two trees with your legs spread and a person on each side with a saw the length of your body placed at the split of your arse and sawing you in half from your arse crack/balls and dick to your head effectively splitting you in half once they saw through your chin/head

Read the actual events of Vlad the impaler. Those folks could live a day or so after having a pole drawn up the arse. Making his victims suffer as long as possible was the goal.

Getting cooked wouldn't be pleasant either
