Very badass redesign upcoming for UK there. Reminds me of the Sprint Center in KC a bit in terms of the shiny futuristic exterior - is the wavy design supposed to emblematic of anything that anyone knows of or just some interesting funky architecture generally to catch people's eye?

The O'Dome is scheduled to start a major renovation this next offseason. They are making all seating permanent on the second level to allow for a new concourse and lounge/box seats. The outside is also getting a significant face lift to fit in with the campus and they are also creating a grand entrance to connect the Swamp to the O'Dome.

When it was built in 1976 the design was for the common fan, not corporate sponsors. The capacity of 23,500 was intended to provide seats for as many of the blue-bloods as possible. Blue-bloods tend to donate far more to the school than do more casual fans. For a long time, Rupp was an intimidating, very loud arena.
Now, however, the need for massive amounts of money is driving the makeover. Luxury boxes will lure the mega-blue-bloods who demand more space and coddling. Even the non-luxury seating will increase in price from their already highest-in-the-nation levels. Required donations to the K Fund over the years have already priced seating beyond the abilities of the common fan to reserve. It'll only get worse.

my bet is there will be pretty massive swaths of blue in Mizzou Arena unlike anything we've ever seen before up there.
Could be, except sub zero temps may cancel some trips. When UK went to Reed they had a substantial traveling base that caught several local fans off guard.
Looking at Stub Hub looks like around 300 tickets still out there and via Seat Geek it looks like lots of other scalpers have tickets as well. Not sure what the "day of game" scalpers inventories look like but it will be interesting to see. UK generally only has the seats at any given venue because the local person sold them in the first place. It si why you never see big opponent crowds in Rupp because the locals will not give up their seats for sale to outsiders.

There wasn't much reaction to reducing capacity of CWS but if some people lose their seats at Rupp we might have a class war in Lexington.
I suspect that is what has been brewing all along as it has slipped that seating may drop 6,000 seats in Rupp. Then the defecation shall certainly impact the rotary oscillator.

I don't blame you..wouldn't want to see a loss anyway. I think I went in '05 right after it opened when Langford got hurt in the first couple minutes and we lost. Just got a few not so nice things yelled at me, but nothing too extreme. Not like the football games anyway

Some of that orange is too close to UT orange. No freaking thanks. They better the colors right.

Right now Rupp has an industrial building look from the outside. It's also very intimately linked to the Civic Center.
The downtown design commission wanted Rupp to be the stand-alone centerpiece of a dynamic west end renovation.

I think there is still a lot of tweaking. There is no way they are going to move the Rowdy Reptiles back that far from the court and put chairbacks in. And I agree that orange is a little too close for comfort.

I would like to illustrate just how far A&M has come on the basketball facility front:
Then:
Now:
The photographs don't do EITHER justice. You can't see how nice Reed Arena is and how shittastic G. Rollie White was. That upgrade was about 30 years overdue. The reason it was so long overdue will make you want to puke and laugh at the same time. We're REALLY glad to be in the SEC.

That really happened under the old Blue White Fund and the first real wave of pricing out happened in the post Sutton Era.

If they cut 6K seats it could very well double and even the blue bloods will be out as they are replaced by corporate folks who are not in the area (well unless you count the corporate folks in Louisville and Cincinnati as local)

Wow, that's beautiful. What shade of blue is that? The hexadecimal code?

If they redid Rupp, it would be really cool if they could do 3 tiers and stack them so the upper decks would be that much closer to the floor.

I have never been more depressed by a single thread in the entire history of internet message boards.
I am deeply sorry I peeked in on this one.
I am leaving now, never to view this thread again. Ever. Even in the afterlife.

It will be really intersting to see how it shakes out. Mizzou had a really good loud sellout crowd last year in the blackout game vs Florida (below) so there's precedent for us getting fired up for a high profile SEC team despite the lack of history. But of course, Gator fans don't travel for hoops and even if they did were much farther away than UK, this will be a completely different animal. Compounded greatly by the lack of emotional connection with the team and coach for a frustrated Mizzou fanbase right now. Our walk up crowds are usually pretty good (scalping is legal in MO), but I do think this is the sort of game because of it being UK where a whole lot more tickets wound up in ticket brokers' hands before the season even started and hence there will be less walk up.

About time. Florida's arena looks high schollish with all the aluminum bleachers and hand rails everywhere

Stegman Coliseum is like the really hot girl that you find out kicks puppies and openly hates your mother: Looks really good on the outside but is a hollow, stinking shell on the inside.
