It is about time. When teams way below Auburn in the national hierarchy do it, we might as well too.
Especially considering we've got very legit claims to all of those, none of them are totally ridiculous.

The way I see it:
1983 Auburn = 1966 Alabama - this comparison may be a little overly generous to Auburn because they were competing with another 1 loss team that year whereas undefeated 1966 Alabama finished 3rd behind two teams with a tie that year. Alabama doesn't claim this one but catches hell for the suggestion that we may have gotten hosed.
2004 Auburn = 1977 Alabama - I think that Auburn team could have given USC a run for its money but then again that USC team was probably the best single team of the 2000s. Alabama blew out its bowl opponent in 1977 and its only loss was early in the season on the road to a Top 10 Nebraska team by a TD. Notre Dame which took the title lost to the same Ole Miss team that Alabama waxed that year.
I have no clue about the claims from 100 years ago so if they want to claim those then claim away.
