Fran did beat Saban 31-0 in Death Valley in 2002.
It's fun to hate on him, but he was successful at Bama and had his moments at A&M.
His problem was recruiting, not strategy or football intellect.

Fran leaving Bama and Bama desperate to Sign him
A little bit of history showing how Bama loved fran and as I said did everything to keep him. The Nation and Bama Nation said NO WAY.
Point is A&M has some stroke. Not how the hire turned out.
Sorry to the "A&M" posters on here. I know it will upset you that I was correct and that A&M has proven to have some powerful stroke in the coaching situations such as we face now. I think A&M will hang on to Sumlin because of this and the classes he has lined up.
Again my apologies to the Rant Aggies for defending A&M.

As a result of this, the Alabama administration made it a priority to sign Fran to a long-term extension. Bottom line, he was our man, and we wanted to ensure that he stayed in Tuscaloosa for many years to come.
Unfortunately, getting Franchione to agree to a long-term contract extension was much easier said than done.
quote:
Though the Alabama fan base was clearly dedicated to Franchione, and though the Alabama administration was actively seeking to sign him to a lucrative long-term contract extension, Fran was already looking for the escape hatch after a mere twelve months on the job.
quote:
All in all, hindsight 20/20, it was just a complete train wreck. We wanted Franchione as our coach moving forward, but in hindsight it is obvious that he never wanted us.
quote:
Sufficed to say, by this point, the Alabama fan base was absolutely head over heels for Franchione
quote:
Going into that week, most Alabama fans were extremely confident. The team was playing better than it had in many years, and Auburn had been decimated by injuries to their offensive backfield. Far from the possibility of defeat, most Alabama fans -- and football pundits for that matter -- expected the Tide to roll just like it did the previous year. Oh sure, you still had the Franchione to A&M rumors floating around, but surely not, right?

His best moment at A&M was beating a 9-3 Texas team in Austin. In 2005, he took a preseason top-15 team and finished 5-7

A&m certainly has a reputation for having a "good stroke". As Coach Denny would say, hold on to the rope boy and try to get it in the jar.

It was cold as shite that night too
between injury and suspension, the second half of the 2002 season was by far Saban's worst period at LSU.

How are you "defending" A&M?
Everyone already knows we took Fran from Bama, and that fact doesn't eliminate the possibility that Sumlin will leave (though I don't think he will).
Nothing any other Aggie is saying towards you is an indictment of their loyalty to A&M, it's an indictment of YOU.

Did we even really know he was going? Didn't we just wake up one morning and see him in College Station? I don't even think he told anyone "bye".
Sanctions were looming and he snuck out.

Roger - give it up. Everyone that can read knows from post #1 I was stating that A&M is a powerful school and we shouldn't worry about the Sumlin stuff. As an example was pulling Fran.
That is the only point - nothing following is related to this point.
We understand that he did bad at A&M Roger - but way to find the only thing from my post to make A&M look bad. Your real self is showing now pretty bad.
You love giving Bama a laugh more than making A&M look good - and have the balls to tell me I am making your school look bad.
You really make no sense - even though the followers like to do what they do - follow.
If you filter out the 5 flames I immediately received and your typical derailing the thread has a flow. There are a few posters interested but you run them off. You bring down the rants potential.
It could be like an SEC Tigerdroppings without dickheads like you and your alter/boyfriends.

Stop arguing with this crackhead. Instead, lets get his new handle banned just to be dicks.

The worst part is that we had Urban Meyer in for an interview the week prior and he was prepared to take the job had we offered
God he wanted it.
quote:
Every time Urban Meyer wins a national championship, I’m reminded of his affinity for Texas A&M and its traditions.
And how Meyer would have walked backward and blindfolded from Bowling Green to coach the Aggies six years ago — even then knowing only a little bit about a place he’d soon come to love.
quote:
Instead, communications tycoon and noted Aggie Lowry Mays pushed for Dennis Franchione — he was a hot item then — and Utah hired Meyer. The following season (in 2003), Utah played at A&M, and, despite a narrow loss, Meyer strolled away stunned by Kyle Field and A&M fans’ passion for football.
“I love that kind of stuff,” Meyer told the Salt Lake Tribune about the Aggies’ famed 12th Man tradition. “Isn’t that what it’s all about?”
Meyer got on back to Utah and wanted to start his own 12th Man — even first calling it the 12th Man — before the Utes avoided a lawsuit and named it “Utah Man.”

The point is the power to pull a coach from Bama. Not the result.
Can you understand that? Its a singular point that proves A&M can and has not only kept a coach from a traditional power, but taken a coach from a traditional power.
I find it hard to believe you can''t comprehend this point and how it helps A&M's image?
