The only problem with running it in college is trying to find a 320+ pound nose out of high school.

That's why a lot of teams use JUCO for that position. Although there are HS guys out there. You're right though, it's tough to project guys who are that big.

Yeah JUCO seems to be the way to go for the nose. I like the 34 and switching to something different now would mean having to recruit all new personnel.

I'm cool with the 3-4 so long as we get the personnel and simplify it.

He implied that we couldn't, which I highly disagree with.

I heard that we're only in the original 3-4 30% of the time.

A 250 page playbook is RIDICULOUS for any level. The man might be extremely knowledgable but he's not a good defensive coordinator. Keep It Simple, Stupid.

As I stated, you implied it.

"lets go back to the 3-4 and bring in someone else in".

1st year starters, and true fresh always initially have trouble with the 3-4 when they're on the field. As I constantly post, every game you'll see gradually get better.

Got a bunch of guys on defense who couldn't do a book report on Green Eggs and Ham and yet Grantham gives them a defensive playbook that's on a Mike Martz level of whatthefrickery?

Why didn't you include the whole quote?

quote:

I'm almost to the point where I just wanna say frick it, let's go back to the 4-3 and bring in someone else

quote:

1st year starters, and true fresh always initially have trouble with the 3-4 when they're on the field

Except when nobody on the team can memorize the playbook...

quote:

As I constantly post, every game you'll see gradually get better

Seems to be like we've been getting progressively worse. And looking at grantham's defenses from 2010-2013, it looks like we're going backwards.

Pretty much. We recruit some kids with 2.2 GPA's and 900 on the SAT and expec them to what is essentially theoretical physics in the football world.

MAKES SENSE.

Gee, I wonder why our safeties look like idiots. Even common sense should suggest they cover someone. But when common sense is overridden by trying to figure out what they're "supposed to be doing based on the play" then you get Muager and Moore dancing around in the middle of the field while a receiver goes streaking past our freshman corner on the sideline.

I was kinda taking the CTG sucks stuff with a grain of salt because last year up until the SECCG everybody loved him. However, there is no excuse for this.

You don't have to have lived in the "arena" to know that this can't be the best way to manage a defense. It'd be different if we knew that the playbook was worth the learning curve but it doesn't appear to be the case....even with jr's and sr's like we had last year.

Why do you fail to address the fact it's 3rd and 4th year guys that still don't get it?

We had this problem many years ago when I was in highschool. We had some studs at the DB positions, problem was, our DC's scheme was so complicated we had trouble with coverage and our DB's were confused almost every play. Got to simplify the defense to maximize the potential and until then we will have nothing but issues

I lost my cad last week and downloaded google sketchup. Tonight ill draw up the future of the dawg defense under coach deeprig9 and all will love and despair.
