Tulane has almost twice the endowment of the entire LSU system. It's possible that some big pocket Tulane athletic donors could show up. The Big XII would be an immediate impact for Tulane athletics. Even though the Big XII doesn't travel well, the New Orleans destination could put some butts in the seats.
Who gives a shite if they travel well? OU and tu in one season would travel better than all of whatever shitty conference they've been in has.
Still. Academic endowment isn't a budget you can really run an athletic department on.

Last one was Tulane in the 70's
And 80's.

And even then they went a quarter of a century without beating us (1948-73.)
But then beat LSU 4 times in ten years from 1973-1982.
The rivalry was still going strong all 7 years I was in undergraduate school, 83-90.
heh

It's always hard for me to believe Tulane had a bigger stadium than LSU. Unfortunately Tulane Stadium was long gone by the time I was born.

Tulane- $1 billion
LSU- $700 million
Not quite double, but I agree that when you consider academics, money, location, and facilities, Tulane could have a lot to offer to the Big XII.

For some reason, a lot of those old private schools had big stadiums. Rice Stadium opened at 70k seats (which is more than the number of Rice alumni, living and deceased) in 1950 and was host to Super Bowl VIII.

Then you must be a child.
I've never seen so much hatred in a fanbase as LSU fans hatred of Tulane.
Tulane IS LSU's intrastate rival, it's just that LSU fans hate Tulane SO much, they refuse to believe it.
I'm not young and was born and raised in New Orleans. I can assure you that I, and most other LSU fans I know, do not hate Tulane.
My Father's generation hated Ole Miss. My generation hasn't really hated anyone except Alabama and that is just since 2007.
I was a child when Archie Manning was QB at Ole Miss and I firmly remember the hatred of Ole Miss by my parents, family, and their friends. Don't get me wrong, I remember the Tulane-LSU rivalry and remember both fan bases getting up for the games. However, the "hatred" came from Tulane fans and not so much from LSU fans.
Tulane, simply, has not been competitive with LSU during my lifetime, outside of a 4 year period from 1979-1982.

if you are 30 or under and live out of New Orleans you would never know this.
I hate Tulane but i lived in the GNOA and my parents went to LSU in the 80's so they passed down a hatred of Toolame.

Why would LSU fans ever care about Tulane?...

Of course you can't run an athletic department on an academic endowment. That was meant to show that somewhere Tulane has big money alumni who have given to the university in the past. The fact that their endowment is almost double that of LSU says a lot.
Kansas travels better than East Carolina and they haven't won a road game in almost 5 seasons. It would be a major move for Tulane and one that I think would benefit the Big XII in the long term.

The figures I saw were incorrectly reporting LSU system's endowment as 430 million, but that's actually LSU-BR's endowment. So Tulane has more than double LSU-BR's endowment. That's kind of shocking.

Too Bad LSU Doesn't Have An Intrastate Riva
It is. If you had an instate rival then you would be used to missing out on state recruits, and perhaps then your fanbase would understand that Louisiana high school kids are not actually your slaves and have the right to go to another school without harassment and repercussions.

I do to. It shocks me they weren't discussed at all. Funny that Mack Brown wasn't in DeLoss's ear about it. Seems like he would be a great mouthpiece to get it done. I remember Mack saying a couple years ago he played Tulane every year, specifically mentioning because New Orleans is an awesome road venue. If I was the Big 12 Commish I would jump on Tulane immediately and would have grabbed Louisville, but the spit the bit. Memphis being the next best choice. School located in big cities like Memphis/Louisville/New Orleans should be no brainers for that conference.
