Any Bama fans out there slightly miss the Dubose/Franchione/Shula years?

3 out of 4 national titles is great and I would not trade it for anything, but I think it is spoiling the fan base and taking a lot of the fun out of college football.
For example, remember when we used to go nuts when a guy like Julio Jones, Andre Smith, or hell, even Jimmy Johns committed? Now our entire roster is stacked with 4 and 5 star talent and adding one more to the pile seems like nothing.
Remember when we used to have excitement and buildup to most SEC games because we actually wondered who would win? Now, we have not gone into a single game as an underdog since 2009 Florida. Being an underdog and hoping to take down Goliath is a huge part of the enjoyment of college football. We no longer get to experience that.
Remember when a 10-2 season was a great year? Now we expect nothing less than an SEC and national title every year and anything less is a huge failure.
Being Goliath is certainly fun in its own way, but a small part of me has to admit that I envy the David's of the college football world who get to truly enjoy the ups and downs of a season, just hoping for a star to emerge like Cam Newton, Tyler Wilson, Alshon Jeffery, etc to take them to a great season. Being the Yankees can get a little boring here and there.

Interesting take, probably says a lot about your philosophy and outlook on life.
Its the journey, not the destination.

I pity Bama fans for this very reason. Jeff Gordon Syndrome.

I can understand enjoying the first few years of extreme success moreso than then years where you're an established dynasty. What you should have asked was if people missed the 08-09 period where Alabama was re-emerging on the national scene. I can understand liking that period more than the present day.

That was one hell of a long build-up to troll two and a half fanbases. (Arky's missing all their regulars.)

frick no. Those days will come again one day, so I'm gonna rage the frick out of this piece while the gettin's good.
And all those dark days really made this current run that much better. It hasn't cme close to getting old yet. I stilll get fricking jacked every Saturday. And I never get tired of seeing us skullfrick the likes of UT and AU.

I was in college under Shula and the first year of Saban as well. I hated losing, but deep down I feel like I truly enjoyed the seasons more and got to understand what it really means to be a college football fan. I went crazy for games like 05 Florida, Tennessee, and LSU. That Brodie to Prothro TD pass in the UF game was amazing. Now we simply expect stuff like to happen and give a nice golf clap and RTR.
I don't want to go back to that, but I am acknowledging the fact that being on top for so long is not always as fun as it seems.

I hate blowouts. Would rather win by 2 points than 20. Crazy I know... I just get bored by the 2nd quarter.
But I would never say no to winning.

Speak for yourself bro, 2010 Iron Bowl aside, I could not have possibly enjoyed the last 5 years as a fan anymore.
