We see how well that worked for USC. Regardless, I don't expect to see an SEC team as pre-season #1 for some time. The non-SEC media is tired of us.

I'm not surprised. Ohio State is this year's USC. ESPN and the media always pick out one team and push them into the #1 ranking

Schedule. I would have them #1 also. Doesn't mean they will actually be the best team.

They would really have to frick up not to get into the NCG.
Every year the best teams from the lesser conferences seem to shite the bed though

Teams don't "overtake" each other in preseason polls. Rather, some columnist pulls rank from their arse and poof, a new number 1 is born.

I hope they stay there.
I truly do not care who makes it as the SEC's representative to the BCSNCG this year. Just as long as they torture Meyer 2009 Saban style, I'll be a happy individual.

I just skimmed through there and saw this:
I'm not a stat guru and don't exactly know what's good/fair/bad in relation to this category, but doesn't that seem a little on the high side? The blurb said that they ONLY allowed that much and point to it as a positive for their defense...but 5 yards per PLAY? Idk..it just doesn't seem like that's something to hang your hat on.

Last season, the [clemson] Tigers were one of the country's most improved defenses in the second half of the season; they allowed only 4.9 yards per play in their final seven games

Maybe this will give our boys some incentive to win another natty.

They'll lose at least 1 game. Squeaked by several games last year with no bull's eye and no real pressure

We're #8, moved-up from #10 ... but we just don't care about preseason rankings for the most part although, we are starting to recognize that it is a show of respect, for a program, if nothing else.

The disrespect will be great for our hubris

LSU is playing maybe 5 top 10 calibre teams or so, tOSU none. Like I said earlier, I would have them #1 based on schedule, not because they are actually the best team.
But...

Yep...and folks think Bama has an easy schedule.
Home vs Wisky
Away vs Mich
basically a 2 game season for them, they can just sjow up to the other 10 and win basically by setting foot on the field. They should run the table again...more easily this time tho

Ohio State is not last years USC. They have better coach, a dual threat qb (which if we all remember, Bama kinda struggled with that), and a much better defense. Granted they have to replace some d-linemen, but they are going to be much better than last years USC. Could stop the SEC streak of championships.

While i dont think Ohio State is the # 1 team in the country i do think they get to the NC this year. Their conference is weak right now.
