His stay will be determined the same way all AU coaches have been. Alabama. He beats Bama, he stays. He doesn't, he's gone. Period.
Chizik's still there if he leads AU to 4-7 last year instead of 3-8 with an upset over Bama. Dispute it if you like, but deep down you all know it's true.

Why do I feel like a third grader after reading this thread?
Well, that goes for most threads around here...
I predict 0-12. We don't have a good backup waterboy on the team.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't AU have a shite ton of talent in the cupboard
When?
I thought they finished in the top 5 recruiting rankings the past 3-4 years, If that is true then they have the talent.

I like the coaching moves he has made, also seems he has taken control of the program.
Next season will be tough unless the transfer QB does very well.
Long term, I think he will consistently put up winning records, but will never be a consistent elite team in the SEC running the HUNH offense. He will crush most of the lesser teams and have a .500 record at best against top SEC teams.

Two years and AU hires Petrino

All depends on QB play, he hasn't proven he can recruit QB's yet. Most of his offensive recruits at Auburn have been busts.
His offense hurts the defense but he'll be good enough to upset the top teams here and there, just not good enough to win championships.

You know, my gut right now thinks it will be just more of the same at AU with Malzahn at the helm. I just think they could of done better personally....but what the hell do I really know. Only time will tell

IN two-three years I will say he will do what Hugh's doing

Unfortunately, I think he will be gone in about 4 years.
Bama will throw tons of money at him to replace Saban.

You think? I don't know anyone besides some Auburn fans that really believe Malzahn was the best choice. He might be a great coach before it is all said and done, but one great season as a coordinator and one season as a head coach at a lower tier school could not have been the experience AU was looking for when replacing a coach that won a title just two years ago. It was almost as if they had self imposed probation and went out and got their Mike Shula to guide them through it. Much like Shula, Malzahn will be gone after no more than 4 seasons. I just hope they don't land their Saban after Malzahn.

That is not true... Tubbs was 7-3 vs Bama, Tiny Terry was 3-2 vs. Bama, both had winning records...
Shug was something like 8-15 vs. Bama and the stadium is named after him.
Now the reverse is true, an Alabama coach (Shoola) can not survive losing to Auburn.
Can you give ONE example to validate this Bama Myth?
ETA: that is part of the reason we got rid of Dumb Barfield, but he was 0-5 vs. Bama and sucked as a coach.

There's nothing they can do about this hire anymore than they could about the 5-19 Chizik hire. But, now that he is in place, they will support him and the program just like any other fanbase would do.

However, he's been around AU and obviously can navigate within the culture to the satisfaction of the decision makers.
On predictions, AU pays Gus mega money while at and after leaving.

Unsuccessful. The Big 3 in the West are LSU, A&M and Alabama. Auburn will be on the outside looking in.
