being discussed for the UCLA job. Gator fans, is there any chance in the world he'd leave UF for UCLA? I never thought so and still don't but his name keeps getting thrown in the mix.

If he didn't leave UF for Kentucky he's not leaving for anywhere on the collegiate level IMO. I'm sure UCLA will call but he's not going anywhere.

I would be surprised if he left for another college job.

Hes not going anywhere. His family loves it in Gainesville, and Foley is more than capable of paying him what UCLA could offer.

If he didn't leave for Orlando when they had Dwight Howard, and he didn't leave for UK, hes not going to UCLA.

If he DID happen to leave, I would be shocked.

I heard this a lot on my drive home yesterday out here in LA. They are also talking about Pitino. I was thinking the same if he did not leave for UK why leave for UCLA. I do think he will leave at some point and maybe soon, but I think that will be to the NBA. Just not the Magic

The guys I could see legitimately mentioned for the UCLA job would be Smart, Stevens (Butler), and Few (Gonzaga).

UCLA could be ridiculous with the right coach.

he himself has said that the only job he would leave for is UCLA, and guerrero has listed shaka as one of the 4 people that UCLA is going after

You hear it because he embarrassed Ben Howland in the finals and Florida has eliminated UCLA three times under Donovan. Seems like he made an impression.

I read those names mentioned a lot every year and every year they say the same thing. They all seem pretty committed to stay where they're at, though I don't know if any of them have been approached by a program like UCLA's.

He took the Orlando job a couple years ago, so he is definitely interested in leaving Florida.

Shaka makes bank at VCU, less taxes in Virginia, same is true for Donovan at Florida, why doesn't anyone factor this in?

College Basketball has a tournament, coaches do not have to be a select few schools to have a chance to be voted into a Championship game, even when they can't win their division like in football...

It's a little different when you have someone like UCLA calling. I think several of those guys have seen the writing on wall with Howland for a couple seasons now and may have been sitting back and waiting to see what happens.

Sure, they have been waiting to jump to a job where SoCal AAU coaches can get you fired if they don't like you.

Everyone wants that job.

He didn't leave for Orlando either. Well, not for more than 48 hours at least

Eh. Howland made his own bed when he let Reeves Nelson and Co. start running the asylum. He lost control of that program.

If you think UCLA isn't one of the top jobs in college basketball you know a lot less than I thought you knew about basketball.

You have framed it incorrectly. Because of what Wooden meant to the college game, many coaches view UCLA as the cradle of college basketball and the job still gets much esteem despite its shortcomings. Most jobs have some downside. AAU coaches are issues at many college gigs.

Since Wooden last coached at UCLA, they have 29 tournament appearances, 1 NC, 6 FFs (3 under Howland), 3 elite eights, 7 sweet 16s, a record of 852-349 (.709), their coaches in that time frame:

Gene Bartow - resigned
Gary Cunningham - resigned
Larry Brown - resigned
Larry Farmer - resigned
Walt Hazzard - fired
Jim Harrick - fired
Steve Lavin - fired
Ben Howland - fired

Bartow and Cunningham went a combined 120-17 and were considered failures.
