Searched and saw no thread on this but there was a link in the "Mal Moore" announcement.

“Over the past several weeks, we have had multiple conversations about who should follow Coach Moore as AD,” said Bonner. “Based on Mal’s strong endorsement as well as Coach Battle’s affiliation with UA as a player, partner and donor, his experience as a coach and his significant business background, I am confident that he is the right person to serve UA in this position. I am looking forward to working with him as we continue to build on the foundation of excellence that is the hallmark of Coach Moore’s tenure.”

Battle was a three-year starter (1960-62) for the Crimson Tide, and was a member of Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s first national championship team in 1961. In 1963, Battle served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma under legendary head coach Bud Wilkinson, and was an assistant coach at the United States Military Academy while serving a two-year military tour in 1964-65. In 1966, he moved to the University of Tennessee, where he was an assistant coach for four years. He was named head coach at Tennessee in 1970 and, during his seven-year tenure, his teams went 59-22-2, and won four out of five bowl games.

If y'all get him that's a great hire

This seems kind of...random. I mean, not bad or anything, just a little random. But then, Bill Battle is a businessman, so I guess it makes sense given his Alabama connections.

Dude founded the CLC (Collegiate License Company).
It represents almost every college in merchandising.
If you've ever bought merchandise...hats, shirts...of your favorite school, it was probably licensed by CLC and you've contributed to their revenue.
Guy is probably worth close to a billion $.
And he's a Bama alum and former Bryant player and Tennessee Head Coach.
He fits & exceeds all requirements...Bama ties & strong business acumen.

Ozzie didn't have a commitable offer.

That would be an excellent hire.

Very random.
How, exactly, is this very random? He's an alum, former coach & successful businessman in the collegiate athletics field

They're just mad they hired Dave Hart.

Of course it's not TOTALLY random. Someone was probably like, "HEY, who has some business sense and who also played for the BAHR?" So there was probably a method to it.

Sounds like a good decision - he knows and understands the University and he knows from the get-go that expectaions are high.
