I would imagine Battle is donating as much to the University now as he will if he's hired.

I guess that's why Bama has seen more success athletically than A&M the past couple of decades. Two different approaches.

Battle is a solid guy with impressive credentials. But he is 72. I'd think you'd be going through all this again in another few years.

I think this is intentionally a short term hire. I think they already have a good idea who they want long term, but who that is I can only guess.

One possibility is they may be allowing Shane Lyons to get more experience in the athletic Department before moving him into the position.

A second possiblity is they are waiting for Ozzie Newsome to get his fill of being the Ravens' GM. I would rate this as my least likely scenario though.

A third possibility is that maybe Saban has indicated that he would be interested in taking it once he is ready to give up the HC position. Now I never gave this much credence before. But when asked after yesterday's practice about his interest is someday being an AD, he said: "I've never thought much about it. I wouldn't want to do it and be a coach. My focus right now is to improve what I do. I'm not really concerned about the future. I don't think I'd ever be happy doing nothing, and I know Terry wouldn't be happy having me around all the time". That last sentence made me think twice about it though.

I think it's short term too. Former ACC Assoc. Commissioner & current Bama Assoc. AD Shane Lyons will eventually be the guy. Mal Moore handpicked him in 2011. He's a relatively young guy.

I think he's a good fit for what they have in mind for short term and long term goals.

I don't know if Saban wants it or not. But one thing I do believe is that Saban is not the type of person that can just retire and sit around relaxing for the rest of his life.

But with that said, I think Lyons being groomed to take over is probably the most likely scenario.

Terrible hire. Haven't we learned from hiring people just based on their Bama ties. We need to move on from the old days.

IDK if he wants it or not - but I've got a feeling if he does then it's his for the taking.

I'm just not sure how well he'd do in that position. He's highly demanding, he's OCD about detail and doing things a certain way - he seems impatient and out of sorts when the least little errors in judgement are made by his underlings... Of course, maybe he's just that way on the sidelines during the heat of a game - he may be a little looser and more accomodating in an office setting? IDK

Most important question: Is Battles a basketball fan?

So you were on the committee that researched his qualifications? Tell us all about it, please!

Saban is very demanding. Heck I could see him firing 1/3 of UA coaches
