No question that he needs to beat one or two of the big three from the East this season. But, he's only been at Vandy for two seasons and has already changed the culture of that place. I like his style & enthusiasm as a HC.

Gus may end up being really good and they might not have to anyway.
I actually think Gus will do well.
Bielema I think will fall flat on his face.

nah... he's the best hire of this past cycle, and he put together a solid staff.
My questions are on defense (their recruiting on the offensive side was very good this year), but i think he's a very good coach.
I'll say this... if Beilima can't win significantly in Fayetteville (like SEC Championships and BCS bowls) then they'll need to take a long hard look in the mirror and realize it's the program, not the coach.

Yep. I was surprised that they were able to pull him away from Wiscy, but nothing about his coaching style impresses me.

Vandy had a nine win season last year. Let that sink in for a bit.....
It could have easily been 11 wins and a better bowl last season. Then we would have a better understanding of how good Franklin is.

That's what people fail to realize.

I would like to see total staff salaries; not just head coach.

I think its the complete opposite.
Bielema is going to recruit to Arky way better than Petrino and Nutt. They had some significant success under those two and I think Bret will do even better. He's a damn good coach and assembled a big time staff.
Gus will pull upsets and go to decent bowls but relying soley on a high paced offense isn't a program sustainer.

And Freeze could have easily had 10 wins. Every coach could play the what if game.
UT got worked by Butch

You must've missed where Auburn pulled one of the best DLine classes in the nation. Gus and AU will be fine once they find a QB.

I just think Bielema is going to try to put in a system that will take a while to implement. Maybe it will work eventually...but I think it will be a rough start.

there's also a couple of games Vandy could've easily lost... and they managed to miss the three best teams from the West, who just so happened to be in the top 10.
I'm not saying he isn't a good coach... but the notion that he walks on water is a little premature, IMO.

And everyone on here wonders why Richt will retire at UGA. He is the one coach that UGA can afford to pay within the middle of the road in regards to coaching salaries, but still get back to back SEC championship game appearances for the money. All while keeping profit margins high. UGA administrators would be crazy (from a dollars standpoint) to let him go, then go out and pay a big name up to $5 million a year to coach its team.

You can find out what Franklin makes by looking at the most recent IRS Form 990 that has been filed. It's public record.

If you're happy making SECC game appearances and having a nice bottom line, then sure... if you want to actually win something for the first time since 2005, then you might look in a different direction.
One day, UGA fans will look back and wonder what were they thinking for holding onto MR for so long... there are literally tons of coaches who can recruit well to UGA and win anywhere from 9 to 11 games a year on average.
UGA has the tools to be a consistent NC contender... they have the money, fanbase, recruiting base, etc... Richt's not good enough to put it all together and win on the biggest stages.

Butch Jones at $3 mil a years seems out of whack. I think the rest seems pretty much what I would expect.
How is 3 million out of whack for Butch Jones? He's 50-24 as a head coach and has won conference titles in the Mac and in the Big East. Stoops makes 2.2 million and has never been a head coach. I have no idea if Jones will work out but he seems to be at a fair salary point.

I am not talking about fans. Fans will continue to pay to attend games regardless. My post was strictly from an administration standpoint. You cannot fire a guy that recruits in the 10 ten year after year, consistently wins 10 games a year, and has an all time winning percentage of .750, and you are paying him $2 million less than a guy he came within 5 yards of beating for the SEC crown. Think logically.

Coaches have been fired at big programs, with similar stats before and have come out better after. It would be beneficial if they set up a retirement plan for Richt, behind the scenes and have ample oppurtunity and time to search for a new coach, behind the scenes, to find a good coach.

I for one think Bielema will have less success than Petrino did at Arky.

Some have come out worse as well. UT/Fulmer come to mind.

Now that is logical. That is something the administration could agree with if Richt is looking to retire within 5 years or so.
