Nick Fairley wasn't as highly regarded out of HS, he was a DT/TE who was expected to play Guard. Bama tried to flip him the 2nd time around by request of James Willis.
Fairley had little expectations and exceeded them, Gabe Wright and Monty Adam have huge expectations and have to live up to them.

Monty Adams has huge expectations. Gabe Wright has expectations.
Gabe was not even a top 100 player though let alone a 5 star. People around AU expect him to be great and be All SEC level but outside of AU I didn't realize he had huge expecations

He had the unfortunate spotlight of being the guy coming in to "replace" Fairley. He didn't help matters by playing it up himself and bringing a bit more attention. The former happens to a lot of recruits, the latter put it in focus. Marvin Shinn was talked up within the Bama fanbase as "Julio's replacement", and that certainly didn't happen.
Different reasons in relation in to their expectations, and Adams' bar might be set higher due to being highly touted out of HS.

I still expect good things out of Gabe Wright, but I have no hope for Jeff Whitaker. He reminds me of a bigger version of Jamar Travis that just so happened to be very hyped out of high school.
Nothing more.

I don't know anything about Adams' work ethic or being raw, but I know that he's a man that appreciates legit airbrush fashion when he sees it. And that makes him alright in my book.

Adams has some growing up to do before we start talking about him getting to Fairley's level. Adams has all the potential in the world but needs to learn to bring it on every down in order to really live up to expectations. His competition in HS was also suspect at best, so there will be an adjustment period there.
I think Adams' impact will really be seen starting during his sophomore season, and he'll really come into his own as a junior.
Also, Fairley is a thug POS, so maybe Adams should strive to be like someone else. I had to say it.

Nick was unstoppable in 2010. Came on late in 2009.
Even double teamed, Nick could not be stopped.
Not sure I would put that expectation on any player.

Nick Fairley was an awfully good player. Most of us at Bama like to focus on him being a cheap shot artist - which he was/is - but like him or not, he was a dominating player and auburn wouldn't have won the national title in 2010 without him.

Adams may have a better overall career if he can produce for three years but Fairley's season in 2010 was the most dominant season I've seen from an interior lineman in the SEC in the last 15 or so years.
