Which rivalry was bigger? A&M-Texas or Arky-Texas?

Seeing as how both schools were smart enough to get away from the dictatorship that is now the Big "12", historically, which rivalry do you think was more heated and carried more weight in terms of games that meant something on a national scale? I'd have to go with Arkansas-Texas being more prominent. Simply because Arkansas and Texas were the class of the conference in both football and basketball for the majority of their time together. It's obvious that A&M hates Texas, as they should, but it seems like Texas approached that rivalry as having to play with his little brother.

Wasn't Arky/Texas in 69 the first or one of the first "games of the century?"

Two of those teams combined for the most conference championships during the SWC's existence. Neither of those two is Arkansas.

Arky-Texas definitely. I wasn't even around then but I know that at that time the Arky program was much more respected nationally basically because of that game. From what I can tell Arky used to be what OU is today.
Which is why Texas thought they could hurt A&M by not playing us- it worked with Arky. Too bad for them we are actually in Texas and it won't work again.
Which is why OU is terrified of really getting away from Texas- they don't want to be irrelevant as Arky is today.

It depends on what kind of rivalry you prefer.
Texas-Arky = Alabama/Tennessee of the SWC
Texas-A&M = Alabama/Auburn of the SWC
Texas-Arky = Alabama/Tennessee of the SWC

Well, I can certainly assure you that no Texas fan ever considered Arkansas better than their 3rd best rivalry. Texas/OU was the big national contest and A&M is the nasty, bitter affair that both schools had virtually every tradition built around.
This would be kind of like if 20 years from now an LSU fan said that their rivalry with Bama was more important than Auburn or Tennessee.
You guys did have some big games with Texas though over the decades so congrats on that? Maybe there is a Frank Broyles pic you can fap to somewhere and try to convince us all that Frank was as big as Darrell Royal or Bear Bryant. lulz

quote:While ilol'd at most of your post, this is actually true. In the SWC, Arkansas was the only school in the conference not actually in the state of Texas. Because of our success in the conference, the "head" of the conference became jelly and took notice. Thus the rivalry.
From what I can tell Arky used to be what OU is today.
