Did Eddie Lacy really not get an LSU offer out of HS?

A buddy told me this at work today and I looked at his Rivals page, sure enough it shows he didn't have an offer. Surprising considering he is from LA. What happened?

If true I wonder if it had something to do with LSU's running back dept. LSU usually go pretty deep with RB's.

He didn't have the grades to get into LSU, but Bama cheated and got him eligible.

Long story short his grades were crap and no one on the LSU side thought he had a chance at qualifying, plus there was a legal issue (statutory rape iirc). LSU already had Michael Ford locked up who was considered to be the best back in the state that year. Bama somehow got Lacy in school, kudos to them.

Lacey took some qualification courses over the summer under the supervision of Nick's buddy and one of Louisiana's most sleazy high school football coaches who is a professional at getting kids to qualify. It was quite remarkable how much ground he gained in a few short weeks.

Heres a link, looks so.
I'm not sure if he just wanted to go with bama from the start but he had LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, & UT as his schools listed. It says his only offer was from bama though. weird.

LSU waited and waited and waited.
Dude kept spelling his name wrong and couldn't get eligible.
He took something like 7 summer school courses to get eligible after his senior year, and Alabama signed him.
NCAA said, "7 classes in 1 month...sounds legit."

It was either him or Michael Ford, we got Ford. Most people would've taken Ford over Lacy, at the time, considering injury and grades. Also, Ford was committed a full year (on junior day) before Lacy committed, which was on signing day, IIRC, a time which we only had four spots open, three of which went to Mingo, Montgomery, and Rueben Randle.
The Bama fans may tell you differently, but that's how it happened, as I was at a signing that day, myself...

Yeah, academics mainly. LSU didn't want him. I don't blame that decision then or now, makes perfect sense from our side of the pond. Grats to Bama for taking him, getting academics straightened out and having him live up to his potential as a star RB.

I had a conversation with Larry porter back in 09 and asked why we weren't offering Lacy. It wasn't just grades, definitely character concerns and porter didn't even seem like he was keeping up with Lacy and this was just a few weeks before signing day. Honestly it was probably best for the guy to get out of BR and obviously he got his shite together so props to him.

We wanted him but didn't think he'd qualify and there were some off the field legal issues that freaked everyone out.

Guys, not everyone is college material or should be in college in the first place. Nothing wrong with working on cars, houses, or attending non-engineering tech. schools to improve your life. It does not mean your dumb, just that your abilities are different. This kid has physical talent on the football field and I'm happy he got a chance to showcase it. Good for him - for it will pay off for him soon.
I think this is what Saban means by impacting kid's lives. You can't be a part of such a success story in the pros. And you can tell Saban really likes the kid and has always gushed (even when trich & mark was around) when talking about him.

I'm not reading the thread but here are the facts:
- A guidance counselor at Lacy's high school told LSU coaches and compliance folks to not waste their time. He had zero shot at qualifying and didn't care about it at the time.
- Lacy also had some unpublicized legal issues that were hanging over him.
- The LSU staff did keep in touch with him throughout the process but never actively recruited him.

He said he didn't want to play for team whose o-line couldn't hold on every play. He went on to explain it probably means their boosters are chumps so they don't grease the refs hands or give out $$ handshakes after the game.
He never mentioned whining, UGA or LSU though so I can't be sure about his intent.

He had an offer from LSU at 1 point during his recruitment process. That is a fact. At 1 point he indeed had an offer from LSU. Then the concerns about his grades surfaced, and everyone knew he wasnt a big LSU fan like most local players are. Not sure if we pulled his offer because we knew he wasnt coming here or what, but he did have an offer.
