First off, it's not our first road game. We played at Ole Miss.
Auburn should be a win. I say should because, although Auburn is a slow-motion train wreck right now, they have good talent. We can't turn the ball over to them 5-6 times and expect to win.
Miss. State has a good defense. Is it as good as LSU? I don't know yet. It hasn't really been tested all that much. Very winnable game if we limit turnovers.
Alabama is not invincible, but we cannot make mistakes. Period. They have the best defense in the country, so I expect Jizz Jar Jesus to struggle. If the score is close late in the 4th, like LSU, we have a pretty decent shot at an upset. Most likely, depth and speed on defense overcomes A&M in the 4th and Bama pulls away late (assuming zero turnovers).
Sam Houston. Shouldn't get within 40.
Missouri. They like to think they are playing against Sherman and Fran. They won last year in overtime, scoring like 17 points in about 5 minutes. This team is not exactly the same team. They don't have the defense to stop our offense. We pull away early and they don't have the bodies to catch up.

and without a costly penalty in the first quarter, A&M is up 13-0 and possibly 16-0 or 20-0 on their next drive.
That's exactly my point. What ifs don't get us anywhere.

You are absolutely right. What-ifs get us nowhere but to moral victories, but what-ifs do indicate that the teams were evenly matched. It would be unreasonable to accept the notion that LSU is vastly superior when the score was 14-12 up until halfway through the 4th quarter.

That's how LSU rolls. We don't want to be up big we want to stay close and take what is given. Les will play smashmouth football and take over in the 4th quarter. With all of this said, A&M gave us more than we wanted and I feel lucky to come away with the win.
The two best teams in the west play a similar style with OK offense and outstanding defense. If A&M insists on running the spread they will continue to lose. Defense wins in the SEC not offense. If a team can dominate in both then they will be unstoppable. A&M has a ways to go to get to the elite level that is Alabama and LSU.

Maybe this has already been covered but the only part of many pass happy attacks I wonder about is when play calling becomes aggressive to the point of simply poor game management.
There's one moment from A&M / LSU that sticks out: LSU scores after an interception about a minute and a half before halftime and pins A&M at their 18 yard line on the ensuing kickoff.
Against an LSU that lives off defense created opportunities in a game where LSU's offense isn't doing much, am I the only one who thought it was crazy for A&M to come out guns blazing, hurry up at that point?
I recall thinking at the beginning of that A&M drive, that the odds this strategy ends with a LSU score instead of an A&M one is probably 10-1.

I don't know about Bama yet, but A&M is on par with LSU. Deny that all you want. The game and scoreboard disagree with you.

What? The OP was telling us we shouldn't pass so much. We're saying that wasn't the problem. How did you get anything else out of that?

4.82 yards per attempt....which is not good.

If i threw the ball 600 times i could probably rack up some decent yards too.
I only bothered to read the first page...
It would have only taken Mettenberger 83 attempts to get to 276.

Anyway, offense in general wasn't the problem. A&M's 4.4 yards per play is over a half yard higher than any other LSU opponent this year. We had more first downs, were much better on 3rd down, had twice as many trips to the red zone, got the ball into LSU territory many more times than they did our territory, we ran 20 more offensive plays, and even slightly won time of possession (which I doubt any A&M fan expected).
LSU was better than us because they didnt make the same critical mistakes we did. They forced turnovers and we didn't They didn't have killer penalties on scoring plays like we did, or miss a chip shot field goal or extra points. They protected the ball and scored when given any opening.
"A&M lost because passing attempts and because 270 yards!" is dumbass talk and shows complete lack of understanding of football.

So because it was a close game, you think A&M is on par with LSU?

Not only did we try to throw the deep pass, we had it open 3 times and couldn't convert. A&M isn't the only team that made mistakes in the game.
This.

If Mett was 1-4 on hitting open guys deep then thats probably only a reflection of his overall pathetic completion percentage during the game and not an indication that LSU left all those points on the board. If you cant hit wide open guys when A&M is daring you to throw deep, and if you cant even complete more than 1/3 of your passes, then your quarterback probably isnt very good. It worked once though, and that was enough to make the opponent pay and thats all that matters.

If JFF wouldve completed every pass A&M wouldve won. :moralvictory:

You don't? I'd hate to see the score when we are on par with LSU.

A&M couldn't do shite when LSU moved to the 3 man front. A&M made no adjustments, and continued to pass the ball when LSU had 6 freaking DBs in.
LSU's offense is bad. Well, the passing game mostly. We have had trouble against everyone we've played this year, not just A&M. Only down 14-12 doesn't say much. Hell we only beat Auburn by 2. LSU wins by playing great defense, and running the ball. Our passing game is pretty much non-existent, we don't have many big plays on offense.
