Jason Garrett could be a name to watch depending on how the cowboys season ends up. He may be a touch out of our league, though. He would be hired quickly as an NFL OC

I could deal with this.
Also, what are the chances Chizik actually gets fired this season?

Jason Garrett is interesting but it doesnt look like he has any college experience so the might be the only drawback.
I think it comes down to him or Romo with the Cowboys and I feel like for whatever reason, Jones will pick Romo so he may be available

Well he has a pretty good looking wife so he passes the James Franklin "can he recruit and have swag" test

I can hear the REC now.
AU took Garrett so Saban would go to the Cowboys.

Yep. So if we hired him and someone hired Gruden, when we played each other it would be called, "The Battle of the Gingers" or "The Gingers Attack"
This could be so awesome guys

When Dye said that he could stay even if he didn't win another game this year, I don't think he realized that we would break a 16 game losing streak by letting Ole Miss take a 3 touchdown dump on our heads.
At this point, 1 of the two will happen: 1. Chizik is gone with everyone he hired. 2. Chizik stays with no one he hired except BVG and Martinez if they will stay.

I wonder if Petrino would be willing to be our OC. I'm sure he eventually wants to be a head coach somewhere, but for the next few years, he could come in and be our OC and, while not necessarily out of the spotlight, he wouldn't have the head coaching spotlight on him. He could take a few years and act like a responsible adult and get his reputation back in order.
If we could somehow pull off Petrino as OC and BVG as DC, I'd be more than happy to keep Chizik.

This thought crossed my mind. Very intriguing, but I think this is definitely a pipe dream. It would be an incredible coaching staff.

Yeah, but I really don't think any big time school would hire him as a head coach for a few years. He could come in as OC, make a ton of money for living in Auburn, AL - 750k+ - and then move on to a head coaching job somewhere when he's had a couple years to repair his reputation. It might not be that likely that he'd go back to being an OC, but I think it makes a lot of sense for him personally and professionally.

Hell no...too many decent/good HC jobs will be open after the season.

I understand this, but you're going to have a hard time convincing an AD/President, etc to hire a guy like Petrino for a head coaching job right now. It could definitely happen, but I think it makes sense for him to take a good paying OC job for a few years to somewhat stay out of the spotlight and let his reputation heal, then move on to a head coaching job somewhere. It's not like there aren't multiple head coaching openings pretty much every year.

What about Smart?
He is leaving Bama this year. It would be interesting but I don't see our AD firing chizik to bring in a coordinator. He feels like he is outgrowing the DCordinator position
Heard from someone I trust (works in AD somewhere else) that he doesn't think Chizik is leaving this year due to his buyout being absurdly high.
He said he had heard that Jimbo Fisher has legitimate interest though and it is less pipe dream than people think.
TIFWIW.
