I have lived in Maryland for over 25 years and not one person from Maryland has ever said Pop. Call them yankees or whatever you want but they refer to it as soda or coke.

Dude the reason Mizzou fans on here have anything about "Yankee" is because that's what everyone has been calling us on the rant. You just opened the can of worms again it appears. And yes we all know that we aren't yankees, but it won't change the fact that a fair amount of gumps and roadgator( who's from the bastion of southern heritage...Florida ) will call you a yank around these parts.

If I've learned one thing about Missouri from this place it's that a Missourian is ever so gracious to give me a frickin' history lesson any chance they get.

People from the Ozarks don't talk like people from Alabama.
People from the Ozarks talk with a southern mountain accent, with a little "twang" (ala Texas) mixed in.
Alabama's is a cross between Mississippi/Southeast Arkansas, and Georgia.
Alabama's accent reminds me of Georgia, but they are much less prone to drop their R's like they do some in Georgia and moreso up in North Carolina.
You yankees don't even know your Southern accents.

Missouri must be Southern. No man as great as Harry Truman could have come from the North.

Yankees are winners. Rebs are losers.
Historical fact.

want to remind some of you that you are not Yankees. Even if your personal belief is that of the Yankees (which would be a shame), it still doesn't mean you're in Yankeeville (which is what one poster has as his location).
I saw another poster with an picture of a MU Tiger with the words 'Damn Yankees'.
My feeling is you're doing this for one reason; to agitate.
Well it clearly agitated you.
Take a step back from the keyboard:
1) Don't you think we've done this here before since the SEC move was announced nearly a year ago and some of us have been here about that long?
2) It's a joke man, take it easy.
3) Welcome. We need more Mizzou posters.

I only hear it referred to anything but "coke", mainly soda in Oklahoma/Missouri/Texas.
Of course when you get north of Missouri it becomes
"pop" pretty quick.

The reason so many Missourians want to give history lessons is because it seems these lessons are clearly needed.
The shame of it is, you people shouldn't need these history lessons. Its a modern wonder that so many southerners don't have any appreciation our knowledge of Missouri's role in the Civil War.
And yes, I know a lot of it is just in fun.. people like to agitate others online.
Its just I've been in love with the south since I can remember. I have always been drawn to it and I was so excited to get into the SEC. It just bothered me to see the yankee comments.
I guess you're right, I'm sure this has been hashed out a lot on here..

Look at the two most NWern counties of Arkansas. That's NWA. Notice the 80-100% "Coke". Now notice the abrupt change once you go into Oklahoma or Missouri.
We are where the South ends.
