It won't even be the top defense in the SEC.

Not the best in your conference =/= not the best in the nation.
You of all people should know this.

Actually that is exactly what it means as far as ranking defenses.

No.
You can be #3 in your conference and still be #1 nationally. It is all quote logical. Or something.

Truthfully, if this LSU defense is as good as last year's then LSU will win the national title. The offense is going to be much better than last year's. There were times last year when the offense just sat on the ball and waited for a defensive turnover or a special teams play to give them a short field. This year's offense is going to try and score everytime we have the ball. Will it lead to an extra turnover or two from our offense, sure. But it will also lead to a more potent offense that doesn't rely solely on the defense to set up points.

Yes it does silly.
Winning your conference =/= best in your conference is the problem with your logic.

Comparing LSU to 2001 Miami is just a bit off imo

the same Miami defense that lost in the championship game?

That was 2002. They beat Nebraska in 2001.

In my logic, you win your 6 team division by either beating them all, or having the best record of them all.
You then face the winner of the other division in a championship game. The winner of that has sole rights to claim being the best in the conference.
In your logic, the team who finishes just short in one of the said divisions watches this conference game on the couch eating cheerios and then prays to God, a bunch of the media thinks they have the best lost in the country.
That being said, IDGAF anymore.

The best D of the modern era is Bama 2011. So even if it measured up to Miami 2001, it would at best be 2nd best D in the modern era.
