For once, I welcome a good AU/UA thread on the SEC Rant.

Going into Chizik's 4th season, I think it's fair to say this year is a very good gauge of his talents as a head coach.

yep

I think it's possible Auburn can get 10 wins total this season.

okay maybe

You're absolutely right it's true, but we all know that it is a polite jab.

Plus, we didn't even play in 10 games in a season until 1922, and didn't become standard until at least 1932. That's bad math, Alahunter. Bad math.

Auburn aint man enough to win 9 or 10 games.Forget the West,A&M is takin your 4th place spot.

Yeah, it's been like that every year he's been here.

Point being... how many seasons of not attaining another double digit season, will it take before the rumblings start?

If we don't win double digits in 2013, rumblings will start.

For all intents and purposes, I would agree.

I just called it bait, nothing more and nothing less. If that upsets you then I apologize. You're not as subtle as you aim to be.

like preseason predictions of 4-5 wins last year and he wins 8.

like 2010 preseason predictions of 9-10 wins and he wins 14.

like 2009 preseason predictions of 5-6 wins and he wins 8.

I just want improvement, record wise and performance wise (not for our losses to be complete blowouts).

We were 8-5 last year so I want at least 9 wins. Anything above 9 is a bonus, IMHO.

From a bowl perspective, we were at the Chick-fil-A Bowl last year, a bowl that is right in the middle (not as prestigious as the Cotton but definitely several notches above Music City). It'll be interesting to see if we get picked up before the Chick-fil-A Bowl because they would likely pass on us since we went there last year.

I think yall could have the same record as last year and still be vastly improved.

It is well documented the extremely awkward age bubble we had graduate after our championship. Whether you believe it or not, or just think it's a token excuse, is not my business or concern.

Facing those circumstances, what if we had gone, say, 10-2 and to the cotton bowl that year and then lost all those players and played 2011 the same way... I think Chizik would be in much more of a grace period simply because of the number's we lost just one offseason ago. But he raised the bar high on himself, giving ammo to guys like you to poke and poke, but an unemotional point of view would say that if he gets 8 or 9 regular season wins, then he's trending well.

Agreed. I definitely think we'll hang around with the Big Boys longer, but I would like for it to translate to wins also. We've won our past 5 bowl games so I'd hate to see an 8-4 AU team lose the bowl to finish the same as last season.

I think most everyone recognize how experienced the 2010 team was and the leadership it had. However, he's going into his 4th year and has plenty of time to develop depth and talent. One of the reasons I wonder what benchmark this year and in the immediate future would cause worry and unrest among fans. If he goes 8-5 again, but they play better, is that acceptable? And if so, that would mark 3 seasons of 5 losses under him.. would that be cause for concern?

Sorry,Auburn viewing Auburn is kinda like my 2nd hobby.I would just like to know from an Auburn fan why they think 9 or 10 wins is attainable this season.
You are in new systems both on offense and defense.
You have no proven QB.
Loseing to LSU/Bama/Arkansas/Georgia is a given.

I would, but we haven't recruited consistently like we have the last 2 years...a strong class this year and we'll be accumulating the talent of the top dogs of the SEC. No reason not to expect better results. That being said,it would take two sub-par years in a row for me to start itching for a new coaching staff. They've proven they can recruit with the best. Whether they can develop that talent is two years away in my opinion.
