Finished 25 in the BCS after killing UVA in their bowl game, upgraded tremendously at defensive coordinator, return a lot of talent on a team two years removed from a National Championship.. I don't get it with some of the teams ranked above them..

Wait and see mode without Malzahn calling the shots.

Question mark at qb. Questions at rb. questions at OC. Nobody is gonna be surprised if Auburn is good, but nobody knows what to think yet, except that they will get torched in the second game.

Too many unknowns for people to have a good feeling for them, IMO.

Big question about the offense - no Malzahn, no proven QB. Also, for those looking more in depth at last season they see that Auburn was not that far from having a losing record.

Most are probably assuming losses to at least LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia.

I'll agree with you here.....but I honestly don't think Frazier can handle the SEC. Auburn's team might be ready to have a really good season but I have a feeling Frazier is gonna crash and burn. Just my gut feeling.

I love Auburn as much as any other Aubie on here, but I don;t see any reason that we should be ranked pre-season. Way too many unknowns.

From an outsider's perspective:

-They lost their top offensive player (Dyer)
-Got blown out when they faced a ranked opponent.
-Lost Malzahn.
-Chizik isn't seen as a top-tier head coach
-Unknown at QB.

I think it is a product of multiple factors.

1) you are coming off a 5 loss season and all of the losses were of the blowout variety. Had they all been competitive I think you'd be ranked in the high teens/low 20's

2) two new coordinators. I expect your D to be massively improved under BVG, but your O is an unknown.

3) Offensive personnel issues. You lost your best player on O. You are likely (you'd better hope so) starting a player at QB who has never started a game before. That player has a big need for arm improvement (which he may have made in spring/fall). And you have players recruited for Spread and will likely not run a Spread offense. This will be most clear in the O-line in year 1, IMO.

I expect AU will finish the season ranked, but doubt they'll be ranked during the season more than 7-8 weeks of the 13 week season.

(Also, a lot of media still buys the "we are young" line that Chiz has been selling.)

Because they got their breaks beat off of them by every good team they played last year, and Kodi Frazier is the QB they are hoping will save them.

I think its because we play in the SEC west and have a brutal schedule we suffered through last year. This year will be an improvement but the competition remains brutal.

Personally, I think AU will be better than advertised and will be GOOD by end of the year. However early on, we may take a loss or two.

I haven't read the thread, but has anyone said it's because they suck?
