He should have been fired for the 20k and the hiring practice of JD.

He endangered the university to employment and discrimination lawsuits from the other 2 that were interviewed as well as the other 158 applicants that were not hired.

There is a possible HR nightmare for the school coming...possible. All it will take is one of those applicants filing a claim and the shite storm will be huge.

I wanted him to stay until I heard the rest of the story. I'm still pretty upset about the whole situation, though.

No choice, can't hire a mistress at a public institution and give her 20 grand. I'm sure Petrino will argue that it was for recruiting, but it wouldn't matter if it was.

fricking shite.

I didn't think he should have been fired right up until Long talked about him giving her 20k. After that, it was a done deal.

If that wasn't part of the ordeal, I honestly don't believe they would have fired him.

As an Lsu fan, I don't think he had to be fired. I understand why. But Arkansas could have given him the Peyton suspension.

Honestly? I think that the right decision was made. It sucks for his family, the players and staff, the fans...but the more details that came out, I realized more and more that he deserved to be fired.

There's plenty of them. Initial reports yesterday said BP would be suspended and you should have seen the rejoicing by the Arky posters here. The flaming of LSU and other fans had already started until the real news broke. Made it even sweeter for me.

Most of the ones who are now saying they support the firing are clearly lying.

Sure, there are some. I think a very strong majority knows he got what he had coming to him. I think that sentiment is even stronger among alums.

SIAP, but this was taken on campus today:

Here are some who didn’t want him fired:

Just hours before his dismissal, several Razorback fans had told USA TODAY Sports they ardently supported retaining Petrino.

"I hope he stays. He's a winner," said 72-year-old Judy Grisso. "I don't want to judge his indiscretions. We've seen so much of this lately, everywhere. Who are we to judge?"
Said Shod Neely, an industrial engineering major at Arkansas: "I honestly don't care who he has sex with. It's irrelevant to me . . . I'm more worried about going back to losing than anything."

"Obviously, he was stupid, but I'm more concerned about winning," said Mark Thompsen , a 33-year-old former Army sergeant who served in Iraq and is pursuing a criminal justice major at Arkansas. "All I care about is beating Alabama and LSU. If we beat them I'm okay with it, short of him stringing someone up."
