Mobile-area high school coaches don't see Alabama missing a beat...

...because of the negative press from the Darius Philon issue.

quote:
"I don't think it will have a big effect, not in Mobile," said St. Paul's coach Steve Mask, a 30-year coaching veteran whose team includes at least three Division I prospects. "The bottom line is they're still Alabama. ... You have to look at how they've done in the past. Maybe this is an isolated incident, but historically they've lived up to doing what they said they'd do."
quote:
"I don't believe they'll miss a beat in recruiting," said McGill-Toolen coach Bart Sessions, who tutors quarterback Jason Smith, one of the state's top juniors. "On the surface, I think, it should, but I'd say they'll sign 25 of the best players again next year."

So no Alabama HS coach will dare cross Nick Saban?

alabama high school coaches with no balls... shocking!

I figured this would be the typical response. Just last week it was "Alabama will see repercussions", now it's "Alabama high school coaches won't stand up for their players".

From the same article
--------------------
But Saban and his coaching colleagues are rightfully held to a higher standard than impressionable teens. They should treat youngsters with honor and honesty, not like commodities that can be traded on a whim.
-------------------
The honorable thing for a college coach to do is this: When he extends a scholarship offer, it means the player will enroll at his school and have a scholarship available as soon as he graduates from high school -- assuming he meets academic and personal conduct requirements. If not, don't offer.
Alabama filled the spot that had been reserved for Philon since September by accepting 11th-hour commitments from out-of-state defensive linemen Dalvin Tomlinson and Korren Kirven.
The honorable thing to do would have been to tell Kirven or Tomlinson that Alabama's class was full. Saban should have said, "Hey, you guys are superb players, but we've got this kid from Vigor who has been committed to us for months. Sorry."
But Saban didn't. As long as the winning continues, will anyone care?

And those are the author's words, not the high school coaches that matter.

im not foolish enough to think there will be real affect... these things tend to be forgot about pretty quickly, regardless of the coach or school.
a couple years ago, Carver HS (columbus ga) high school coach was pissed at mark richt and UGA over a player's scholarship... a year later Crowell's headed to Georgia...

Early commitments from Nick Saban's "meh...sort of want" recruits might be harder to get.
Oh, the horror.
Oh, the horror.

I'm glad Philon fell in our lap...Hope he comes back to full strength!
Were the players(s) that replaced him at the same position?

Well, one of the coaches did say he thought it should affect them but he didn't think it would. Sounds like he has his head on straight and not just sucking up.

Well what the coaches say in an interview that they know will be published and what they actually do may be different.

Both the coaches quoted in the OP have several players on the current roster, and others coming up.

Korren Kirven and Dalvin Tomlinson are both defensive linemen.
