Jackson qualified for the 100 meter dash in his freshman and sophomore years. He considered joining the USA Olympic team, but sprinting would not gain him the financial security of the MLB or NFL, nor would he have sufficient time to train, given his other commitments. Going into the NFL draft Jackson ran a 4.12 40 yard dash time

I should note, that the 100 yard dash and 100 meter dash are two different things.
The world record 100 meter dash is 9.69 seconds. Jeff Demps ran it in 9.96 which is the fastest time for a football player.

David Palmer was not so much blistering fast as he was lightening quick. The blistering fast one back around that time was Pierre Goode but his best track event was the 100 meter hurdles. FYI, I think he is still the track coach at Stillman College.
IMO, part of the reason Pierre was better at hurdles than at the 100 meter was the same reason he was not a great receiver. His head bobbed too much at full speed so he was not able to track the ball exceptionally well.

I don't know what that means, but I'm glad I could bring joy to his life.

Rainey also won a 4x100 team NCAA title. Both Rainey and Demps were fast. Though Percy Harvin had more football speed, pretty good at track too.

Yeah, I'll give you that. His acceleration was off the hook.

We have a freshman coming in from florida, Brandon Holloday(sp). He wasn't recruited by the Florida schools. He's pretty small but he ran sub 4.3 on back to back attempts. He's gonna run track in college too but his 100 meter dash time isn't nearly as fast as Demps.

Old school would be Willie Gault and Skeets Nehemiah(spelling probally not close) Gault played for UT and was world class sprinter and very good football player. Nehemiah went to Maryland but didn't play football but after being the worlds #1 high hurdler for several years he gave Pro football a shot and played for several years as a reciever for the 49'ers.

Has anyone mentioned Julio yet? I know he didn't run track in college, but he was pretty awesome in high school.

"X" man's speed definitely translated, he just sucked on the field!

Wasn't Xavier Carter a WR for LSU and ran track too? I don't remember if his WR career ever amounted to much, but I remember he stopped playing football later in college to focus on track

Didn't Jeff Demps turn down professional track to come back for his senior year?

Cobi Hamilton as the anchor leg of the State Champ 4 x 200m relay. Watch how much ground he makes up on the guy! Oh yeah, Trindon Holliday and Will Demps are the 2 that come to mind when i think NCAA Track and Football! Enjoy!

I remember seeing Willie Gault return a kickoff for a touchdown in Tiger Stadium. My boy, Liffort Hobley, who was a legit 4.4 guy was the "safety" on the LSU kickoff team. Gault ran up threw the wedge and made a cut at about the 30 yd. line towards the West sideline and just blew by Liffort like he had a rocket up his arse.
