Who comes to mind when you think of a player who was able to translate speed on the track to speed with the pads on?
RG111 comes to mind, but who can you think of from the SEC? Holliday?

Dexter ran a 4.58. He's a perfect example of football speed

Holliday was a track star at LSU. Jabari Greer ran track and played football at Tennessee. It's not the SEC but maurice jones drew ran track at ucla andTO ran track at UTC
As much as I don't like home Denard Robinson runs track at Michigan.

That's what I'm talking about. Not just guys with fast 40 times, but guys fast on the track and with the pads on.

Bennie Brazell (spelling?) is another track star who was solid for LSU.

We've had a few guys over the years. Richard Smith used to run hurdles

Batman Carroll and Cobi Hamilton.

Both the kids at Florida the past few years. Rayney (sp) and Demps. Both had stupid speed on the football field. No idea if they ran track or not though.
I can't really remember Bama having anyone like this recently. David Palmer was the last one I can remember that just really had a frickin jet pack strapped under his jersey that I can remember. That little fricker could move, and had the moves to go along with the speed.

Jeff Demps won a National Championship in track at Florida and is running in the Olympics this summer.
He ran a 9.96 in the 100. Which would mean he's the fastest football player ever.

Onterio McCalebb, as long as he doesn't trip on grass or something...

Demps is probably the best SEC example (at least in recent memory) of a guy excelling in both track and football. Rainey did well in both as well.
and didn't RGIII only do hurdles? he wasn't a sprinter was he?

I was thinking I heard something about Demps and the olympics which is why I mentioned him and Rainey. Those 2 guys are retarded fast, especially Demps.
I don't think Palmer ran track for Alabama, but he damn sure should have if he didn't.

Did Bo Jackson run track at all? We all think of him as a power back, which he was, but he also still holds the 40 time record at the combine. He was deceptively fast because of his size. I just wonder what his 100 time woulda have been. Couldn't have been shabby for damn sure.

Bo may not have run track since he played baseball. But he obviously could have run sprints.

He ran track at auburn and I am seeing numbers for the 100 yard ranging from 9.1 to 10.23. Either way, especially for his size, that's fricking retarded.
Eta: according to sports illustrated, Bo Jackson set a Alabama state record 9.54 100 yard dash time. This was also after competing in some other events that day. The article won't come up but I can see the preview of it on google.

Yeah, I'm a Bammer, but I still think Bo is the greatest athlete of all time.

In high school Jackson did things like twist his ankle while winning the state title in the triple jump (48'8¼") and then come back the same day to set a state record (9.54) in the 100-yard dash
