I found this on another board, but thought it was worth posting.

quote:

Under Ted Roof, the Auburn defense has allowed at least 24 points scored in 19 of 28 games and 30-points in 12 of 28 games. You would have to go back 94 games, prior to his arrival for Auburn to give up 30-pts or more, 12 times.

Chizik leads the defense, no?

Malzahn is the only quality coach on staff.

NO, but as the Head Coach the ultimate responsibility resides with him.

Ted Roof is shite.

If Chizik doesn't fire him sometime this year, I will go ape shite and and stick poisonous toothpicks through his eyes (Ted Roof's, that is...) I may or may not be serious.

I haven't decided

Your offensive philosophy contributes to the points allowed by your defense. During the same time period Auburn's offense has probably set records for points scored, with lower time-of-possession. It is not a coincidence. As long as you run the tempo offense you will give up more points.

This makes sense, but when they whoop our arse in the 1st half. That shouldn't be happening the defense should be ready to go.

That doesn't explain why our defense gets their asses handed to them in the first half of almost every game

You said it before I had the chance to.

Auburn, since Roof became DC, has been a horrible 1st half team on defense. The one good thing I can say about his defense is that he generally has made some good adjustments at the half of games.

It's almost like you guys don't go into the game with a plan then at half time Roof makes adjustments for whatever the other team decided to do that week.

Again, there is a reason Roof has been fired before and will likely be fired again.

This is what I thought at the beginning of last season but then I thought to myself "surely Roof isn't that stupid." By the end of the season I was convinced that's what he does. The only plus is that he remembered what to do against USCe.

That's exactly how I feel. It's like they go into every game with a base 4-3 zone defense, let the opponent rip them apart, and then adjust to what they're running at halftime. It makes no sense

Well, Chizik is a proven DC, and Roof is a proven failure. Maybe Chizik at 75% (as HC calling the D) is better than Ted Roof at 100%. With Malzahn there, he really doesn't need to worry about the O.
