As it's been relayed to me, Mississippi State actually paid Cecil Newton $48k in December 2009. It was the first of two payments to be made -- the second one coming after Cam signed with MSU.
The money came from Bill Bell through J.C. Patton's office to Melvin Smith to Ken Fairley to Cecil Newton. Somehow (I'm still not sure how he fits in) Fairley is caught up in the Victoryland mess over in Alabama and that's how the FBI connected dots back to MSU. My understanding is the FBI has physical transaction records between Bill Bell and J.C. Patton and text records between Patton and Melvin Smith telling him to come get the money and get it to the Newtons.
Smith was pulled off the road to give MSU a bit of cover. And that's when the MSU recruiting class started to fall apart. Smith is responsible for getting money to Alvin Kidd, a volunteer assistant coach at Philadelphia High School. Kidd distributes the money to various players -- both on the MSU team -- and potential recruits in central MS - basically all the schools east of I-55, north of I-20 and south of US-82.
When Smith was pulled off the road, the money dried up -- both for current players on the MSU team and potential recruits in east and central MS.
Circulate this as you see pleased.

Where'd you get this from?

This lends a little bit of cred to "the money was just too good (weep)" doesn't it?

It's something I've been hearing for weeks but I just saw it was posted on Nafoom. I'm not one to start rumors on a public board....but if it's already on another one, why not?

You mean "The money was just too much" and if true, could put this in a whole new light - saying that the money paid by MSU was too much to risk going there.
But of course the OP is as credible as anything else we have seen posted on this board since September, which means it is pretty much bupkis.

Auburn will be the new Vandy once this is all said and done.

so how does Cecil, who apparently doesn't have a pot to piss in, hide $48,000? I mean he didn't put it into his church (he still owes people money and the place is still condemned)... he didn't spend it on Cam (dude drives a moped)... it's not in his bank account...
off shore cayman islands?

Actually.....that's pretty much why I posted it. MSU fans are quick to the draw with broad accusations like "XXX school cheats and paid players". This actually has a logical trail to it.

So he went to Auburn cause Cecil asked for money and they paid him but it was then too much?
The best story to this day for Auburn fans is that MSU turned down Cecil and then Cecil started worrying about the whole thing and decided to send Cam to Auburn without asking for money.

Notice that absolutely nothing in the OP mentions Auburn. Don't get so damned defensive.
