Recruit worried about Auburn's long term health?

Here is an excerpt from a Rivals article about Auburn recruit (and Texas commit) Christian Westerman:

Sources indicate even though Westerman visited Auburn earlier this month that the Tigers are probably the longest shot. Distance is a concern, along with what's been described as the long-term health of the program.

What did this recruit learn on his official visit to Auburn?

It's going to pop up until it's completely known one way or the other for Auburn. Alabama's minor scrape with the textbook issue caused concerned with a couple of guys, so you know something this big is going to turn some kids, no matter what Auburn coaches tell them. Tennessee (Lane Kiffin) used this kind of stuff on JuWuan James last year.

SACS is going to shut the whole place down, raze the buildings, salt the earth.

Either that or he can't get assurances that Mahlzan will be there much longer and who knows what the offense will look like with him gone.

I'm sure other recruiters are feeding this idea to him. The "long term health of the program" is usually way down the list on what top prospect is actually interested in.

I wasnt suggesting that Auburn was getting any penalties. He did know all about the Auburn situation before he ever went on his visit though. Seems like he felt less comfortable after the visit. It was probably something like Gus's future or something, but it isnt often you see a recruit site the lack of a program's long term health as a reason he isnt going to attend.

Most likely scenario, but definitely not the juiciest for message board fodder.

What a dummy...this guy could play 4 years before the death penalty hits.

kid is no dummy. First of all, his parents don't need the money. Westerman's dad wipes his arse on $180k. Grandparents live close to Auburn but distance to the airport was a concern. He is a UT commit, but do not be surprised if he stays in Phoenix at ASU. Dates the daughter of this guy named Whisenhunt. Parents did enjoy the visit though.

Well, it won't be fed to recruits from Alabama assistants, no matter what Auburn fans want to think. That's one thing Saban won't do, is talk about another program while recruiting.

Nearly every recruit talks about this. It's won over more than a few parents.

... how does he phrase cappy?...."now I'm not gonna sit here tonight and talk about Auburn getting the death penalty, LSU losing scholarships because of cheating, or Derrik Dooley being a complete moron... I'm here to talk about Alabama."

Believe what you want about Saban, but he has a method with recruiting and it doesn't include trying to run down another program to get an upper hand. More times than not it costs you points with the parents. Saban learned that a long time ago when he was an assistant at Ohio State.

i think it has to do with malzhan possibly leaving. Also the only reason he decommits is if texas hires a complete incompetent o-line coach, but were looking good for bostad from wisky so i think ut will lock him up.
