I've found fans act differently at home than on the road. I've been to 5 SEC stadiums including UA's and i'm leaving them out as they are my team and I don't get a feel as an opposing fan. So, rank opposing fans from least hospitable to most based on you travelling to their stadium(remember, don't base it on rivalries or how nice the stadium was or anything else....just how big of dicks they were or werent)

My list goes like this

1. Mississippi State: I hate saying this, but they make it as unfun as it can possibly be to a game. I've seen them play Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss, and Auburn inside of Davis Wade Stadium and each of those games I saw bad shite. It's not even the cowbells, as I don't mind those. It ranges from throwing ice at Ole Miss' band to pulling down a teenage boy's shaker for no reason, to making an opposing band carry all their shite to the upper deck, to starting a fight with an LSU fan for no reason and using gay slurs. I've never seen a fanbase chuck half empty plastic bottles of dr pepper to the crowd below trying to hit and hurt one of their own fans AFTER A GOOD PLAY BY YOUR OWN TEAM!!! What's weird is, I live amongst these people and they're good people from Sunday - 4pm on Friday and assholes after that. Maybe winning will rub off on them and they will cut the shite. Bonus for horrible parking

2. Georgia: Not really that bad, but when you go you can tell the difference in hospitality between SEC East fans and SEC west fans. They were expecting us to be dicks because I think that's what they're used to in the east but slowly calmed as the game went on and were fairly nice

3. Tennessee: Hard to properly judge because I went during Fulmer's last year and they were just a broken mess of a fanbase, but they seemed like nice people anyway.

4. LSU: I went in expecting the absolute worst. I'd heard the horror stories and everything else. From the time I stepped out of the car and walked toward the stadium I had probaby 20 fans go through the same bit. bust my balls, i respond, they laugh, ask me to drink and eat with them. After the game(this was 08) they were nothing but congratulatory. Didn't have one single problem out of one single fan.

1. Georgia - "The Blackout" - Had a guy sitting behind me on the trolly tell me what a long ride home we were going to have. Had other folks scream and bark and in my face... before the game started anyway.

2. Auburn - For obvious reasons, I was not welcomed into the student section with open arms with my Alabama gear.

3. Mississippi State - Who knew Mississippi State fans hated Alabama so much?

4. Ole Miss - See #3

5. LSU - surprisingly hospitable. We went for the 2008 game, and got many compliments on our way out. Great folks for the most part, with the exception of a drunk POS or two.

6. Vandy - Hard to rank Vandy, because most of the stadium was full of Alabama fans. They don't seem to care too much about Football.

7. Arkansas - My favorite road trip to take. Although I haven't experienced their fanbase in person since 2008. Our experience in 2006 and 2008 were top notch. Great fans, great people.

8. Kentucky - by far the most gracious fan base in the SEC - in terms of football, IMO. Everyone was nice to us.

That's because a really high portion of those stories are completely fabricated, or exaggerated at a minimum, by hardcore bible thumpers who are appalled that we drink.

Having not been to a lot of SEC stadiums, here is how I rank the ones I have visited:

LEAST HOSPITABLE: Ole Miss - It's hard to separate the dumpiness of that stadium from the overall experience. To be honest, I didn't even know there were any OM fans there. Very quiet. Not much interaction with us before, during or after the game. Just kind of kept to themselves.

UTENN: My only trip there was the Stoernover game. Again, the stadium was definitely not a place I would care to visit again. Not sure what was worse, the 7,240 vertical feet we had to traverse up a switchback ramp to reach our upper deck seats, or the fact that each seat on the bleacher was about as wide as one of my arse cheeks. But enough about that stadium, the fans were generally very cordial to us. Didn't taunt us after the heartbreaking loss. Most said they are worried about the expected rematch in Atlanta (that never materialized). I liked the TU band playing our fight song before the game. Only negative I saw was when they scored the go-ahead TD, there was a large group of students in the upper deck that thew an empty wine bottle from the upper deck, into the section of Hog fans below. Not sure if anyone was hit, but if they were, it was sure to injure.

LSU: My LSU-alum wife took me to an LSU-Houston game. We had a blast. Since LSU was playing Houston, I was able to wear an LSU cap and not feel like I was cheating on my Hogs. Great food. Ample booze. GOLDEN GIRLS.

I have been every where in the SEC except Arkansas. The only place I have ever had problems was Ole Miss.

Universities give opponents their share of tickets and they distribute them as they see put. Opponents determine where in the stadium the band sits, not the home team.

I like Miss. State, i've been there twice for LSU games and a couple of others when i was living in MS; very down to earth fans (i guess you have to be with their history). Ole Miss i didn't find it all it was cracked up to be, stadium is crap. Alabama 2005 was the loudest stadium i've been to other than TS late in the game. But aside from a few important moments in the game their fans seem pretty tame. The other time i was there was in 1997 when we kicked their arse like 27-0 and they had a shite team so their fans were pretty quiet.

This is what I love about LSU. First, we bust your balls to see how you respond. Then, we invite you join us, eat our food and hit the keg or help yourself to some Jack. It's exactly how tailgating should be.

Good for you for getting the full experience and not being afraid to have us bust your balls a little as the "price of admission" to the party.

Any opposing bands location in Davis Wade Stadium is a decision form their own school. MS State doesn't dictate where the opposing band is placed. Obviously, that school wanted their fans nearer to the field than their band. Get your facts straight there buddy

Alabama - pretty meh. their tailgating could definitely use an upgrade. almost got into a fight with a 20-something dude and his dad in the stands when LSU won in 2005. all me and my friend were doing were cheering when LSU made a good play. they were pretty butthurt after the Tigers won

Auburn - 2004 was a terrible experience. tailgating was fun but the walk to and from the stadium and in our seats was garbage. douche bag AU fans all around. i got spit at after LSU loss when I was walking back to our tailgate spot alone. Aubies be tough when it's 5 against 1. 2010 @ Auburn was a much better experience. actually had some Auburn fans stop me and my group after the game to thank us for making the trip and talked about the game. nice guys. said they heard horror stories about opposing fans coming to the Plains and wanted to let us know not all Auburn fans were assholes.

Old Miss - one of the more boring tailgating experiences I've had. we set up away from the stadium and there was really nobody around. it seemed like there was the Grove and that was it. and even that was pretty lame considering the praise I've heard bestowed upon it. inside the stadium was fun (if you were an LSU fan). the facilities were shite and all the Old Miss fans disappeared because LSU won 40-7.

Arkansas - nothing really positive or negative to say about the trip I made there in 2004. LSU won by almost 30 points. Hog fans were pretty tame, if not the most redneck bunch I've ever come across

Vanderbilt -

Florida - went to the Swamp in 2004 when LSU won in a thriller. it rivaled Tiger Stadium as far as in-game atmosphere. tailgating was pretty awful. they just don't get into it as much as other SEC schools. really nice campus though and some hot women.

and just for fun:

I've been to Vandy and they're fans were cool, maybe because they weren't expecting much that year. I did see a near fight in the bathroom between 2 Rebs picking on 1 Comm. I'd just walked in on it so I don't have the full story.

I did go to the LSU game this year and I didn't feel welcomed and the teasing was on the level of a privileged but despondent 12 year old boy. No real risk of violence. Some sorority girls yelled something at me and my disabled brother from a balcony. I chose to ignore them thinking that I was using their favorite tactic on them. But overall, I'd go watch another game at LSU if someone gave me the tickets.
